Hummer and snow/ice, I don't recall I have ever seen that combo before. I thought hummers stayed away from cold places.
The Anna's hummingbird does stay year round on Vancouver Island and in Vancouver. Both of which occasionally get a few days of winter. They seem to manage fine but I make sure I bring the feeders in at night so they are not frozen in the morning.
Annas are spreading out even to real cold areas. Here is an Anna in torpor in the dark showing how they fluff their feathers at 5 degrees F. Not a great pic but it shows how tough these little guys are. Central Oregon at 4000' a couple of days ago.
Thanks to everyone who has posted lovely images to this thread, as well as the users that have left reviews with their personal experiences. I'm definitely smitten with this lens and its light weight. After some more reviews of the A1 hit the street (e.g., Marc Smith, and also looking your way, arbitrage ), I'll try a rental and see if the 600GM and A1 work well for me.
Anyway, with that all said: is there anyway reliable to actually buy a copy of the 600GM? Everywhere I look online is always out of stock. I don't mind pre-ordering, but not if there is an indefinite wait time. Note I'd also prefer to support a smaller retailer (or at least not B&H) if possible.
Any recommendations?
Thanks again everyone for your contributions and lovely photos!

I bought mine from Adorama when they finally were back in stock. Once you have made your decision to buy the lens, then don't waste time thinking about it when you see them in stock again. That was key for me. I'd think about it for a day and then there would be no stock left. Try checking Mike's camera. They had some stock yesterday.

I had to wait 12 weeks for mine but I got it from Dell when you could stack Rakuten and other offers on top of each other and get the lens down below $11k. That path is now gone for good. I read somewhere that the lens takes 8 weeks to make from start to finish pre-Covid. Can't attest for the accuracy of that but it would make sense.

Do you expect Sony to release a firmware update for 600GM to get maximum out from A1?
I don't think it needs one or they would certainly have already told us so before they let people test it out.
I recall Sony mentioning when they released the 400GM (and/or maybe the 600GM) that these motors in them were designed to be good for much more than 20FPS (the highest available at the time).
