Even without the bufflehead, your backyard has a wealth of wildlife, Geoff and you got tons of wonderful images!

Sometimes things don't go right in the "hatch".

The subject was a long way away, with the sun behind it, yet the A7R4 and 600GM got at least a good enough result to be interesting. We could barely see the bird in our binoculars!

Unfortunately, there is one less newborn bird in the world.

Anyone using this lens for sports? I mean birds are cool but I'd love to see how this lens captures action.

In a remote area of El Dorado County California is a mountain meadow favored by Calliope Hummingbirds. The feisty little jewels return here every spring once the snow has melted and bugs re-emerge. This spot has been so reliable that I've been able to take friends there, point to a scrawny willow and say "watch that twig" and within minutes the twig is decorated with the hummingbird.

Last year's late-spring snowstorm did not treat the scrawny willow kindly but within 10' is another perch, now the hummingbird's favored lookout spot.

Thanks! It's amazing how this lens transforms the R4 from almost unusable with the 200-600 to downright snappy and responsive. Loving it!

Back 15-16 years ago I got into doing some bird photography and used a Canon 1Ds Mark II and 1D Mark II at the time. A few years later I changed jobs and spent a number of years doing international travel, so the bird photography took a break and I sold the lenses for lack of use (I went all Leica M digital for a while). Fast forward to the past few years and I've been re-acquiring all of the gear I had swapped out, this time for Sony. The release last year of the 600GM meant I now had an option to get back to bird photography and in the last month as I went through some old photos the itch become too intense, and I hunted around and found one in stock and got it this past Saturday. Yesterday I got an hour or so near sunset to get a few shots near my house. I forgot how hard it can be to locate a tiny bird and get framed, focused and shoot, but eased back into it. Here's a few shots all taken with the A7R IV and the 600GM + 2.0TC.

Got some nice shots of the endangered Florida Scrub Jays last Saturday, during the worldwide birding "Big Day".
Adding a crop, since there have been some recent comments in other threads about supposedly not seeing any sharp images on the Sony forum.

What a set, Geoff, what a set! I would vote for your thread on the N&W forum. Actually, I would do that 10X if I could...
