Momma nursing her three cubs. These cubs are less than 3 months old and have just begun venturing out of the den. Momma will take them on a 40 km trek to the Hudson Bay where she will hunt seals and seal pups to feed her cubs. All the while, she's guarding against predators such as wolves and male polar bears who would find the cubs to be easy prey. Oh, and Momma hasn't eaten since late last summer! Nature never ceases to amaze.
Thank you very much, Alex! I love your wood duck images; the sweet lighting, the nice low angle, the excellent composition and the editing are right on the money.

The peregrine falcons do not show much action last Friday. During a no-action period, I walked to a nearby tree some 15 minutes away or so where a great horned owl was sleeping and caught this guy, lazily opening his eyes... but barely.

Thanks Josh. My goal is now to do to Wood Ducks what was done to American Kestrels last summer...

Great GHO shot too. Every one I have tried to photograph this year has been too obstructed by branches to get any keepers

Thank you, Alex! I got lucky on that one since it was perching/sleeping at spot where there was minimal obstruction from that particular spot.

This is a frame out of 10 or so of a female hooded merganser that fought hard to keep the crayfish she caught from being stolen by a lazy male merganser. The male merganser dove and tried to get hold of her crayfish from underneath but she was a feisty fighter and didn’t give up easily. At the end she emerged as a winner and swallowed the crayfish right away before the male could do anything else.
