2.0TC question....out of curiosity.
I've used the 2.0 on the 100400GM and it's fine by me (if I have BIG Sun).
With the 200600GM it sucks.
So what about the 600/4 ?
Don't bother?
It is better on the 600GM than on any other lens (excepting 400GM). Way better than on 100-400 and 200-600. That said, I only like using it on lower MP A9/A9II. On higher MP A7RIV and A1 I find it is a waste of time. I'll put a cropped bare lens shot up against the same shot at 1200mm any day.
Just this week I was shooting a Snowy Owl with bare 600 and my friend shot it with 600/2x. Once he saw my shots on FM he messaged me asking why my bare lens shots looked sharper/better than his 2xTC shots. I wasn't surprised by his observation.

Robert, one of the better lenses, the other one being the 400mm GM, of getting the most out of the TC. The AF is still great, especially on the A1 and I am not complaining about the optical performance of that combo.
Here are 2 white-tailed kites in-flight taken with the A7r IV before the A1 time. The problem is a little bit unwieldy at that effective focal length, especially if you don’t use a tripod. I used a tripod for the last image since the bird was perching and the lighting wasn’t ideal.
So, do you guys think it makes sense to add 1.4x to 100-400GM?
200-600 is way too big for me (I barely find 100-400 comfortable) and I'm wondering if 1.4x would give me any extra reach compared to cropping on A1...

Personally, I would prefer doing it optically (by adding a TC) rather than digitally (by cropping) regardless of the sensor resolution. The difference shows better if you crop or print large rather than file size for display on your screen. However, adding a TC will reduce the effective light, reaching the sensor. So, either you increase the ISO to compensate for that, potentially increasing the noise level or you lower the shutter speed. That requires a delicate balance and that will depend on the shooting circumstances and what you want to achiever or preserve. The current crop of noise reductions softwares helps a lot here, too. Again, just my personal opinion…
My first outing with this awesome piece of glass... no better way to get it than barely used for 10% off and no wait time
Target was about 100m (300ft) away.

For me to use the 2.0TC on the 600GM the light has to be nearly perfect, behind me at good angle and absolutely no haze or atmospheric disturbance or "mirage" effect in play. Again, just my perspective and I have done side by side of the the 600GM + 1.4TC with Topaz Gigapixel vs 600GM + 2.0TC and to my eye I find the contrast and sharpness to be better with the former. I've also stopped down to f11/f13 with the 600GM + 2.0TC and it is better than f8 but you lose AF speed and I don't like shooting at f13 for BIF or even perched birds. Again, mileage may vary
