Wet conditions alright - cheapo rain sleeve works fine

Hi Joshua,

Very nice. You came all the way from California to Conowingo Dam to photograph eagles. Boy am I embarrassed; I live probably only about 90 miles from there in Pennsylvania and my best friend (they put us in the playpen together) probably lives only about 10 miles from there where I can stay and I still haven't been there to photograph eagles.

Hopefully that will change since I now have a camera that can take BIF (I just have to practice).

I hope to get together with Douglas and other FM members there in the future and hope that you could/would be one of them.

Rich

Rich, you have the appropriate gear now. So, really no excuse for you not to go . I will be back next year and I understood the eagle are active in April and the weather will be generally better. Next time I am going back, whenever that will be and that remains to be seen now, I will make sure to let you know in advance. And yes, I met Doug @Douglas L in person there.

A lot of great photos in this thread. At risk of being called a troll I am trying to decide whether this lens or the Canon RF600 is the right direction. I am crazy enough to have an A1 and R5 at the moment and need to pick a direction.

If you want hunting eagles, come to Central Oregon in the fall. The Kokanee salmon spawning out of Wickiup Reservoir is home to many eagles. Of course Klamath Falls, Tule Lake area has a lot of birds feasting on ducks in the winter. We have lots of resident birds but a huge # fly in from the Yukon & NW territories in the winter for duck hunting. The added bonus are the many Golden Eagles feasting on rabbits in the alfalfa fields.

Nobody is calling you a troll. I had the EF version previously and I am convinced that both lenses are on equal footing. I never used the R5 and I don’t want to speculate. However, from what I gather from talking to folks that have used both, I would not give up my A1 for the R5. I know both systems are great and you cannot go wrong with either. I am maybe slightly biased though and I am not trying to hide that. Good luck with your decision!

Thank you! I have seen plenty oi images of osprey hunting red Kokanee salmons. So, eagles do the same, too, huh?

We have lots of Osprey but they don't stand a chance if eagles are around plus most are heading to Costa Rico in the fall.

Interesting to see how the rain looked in those pictures.

Two shots of a big bird and a little bird this morning. The big bird almost filled the frame, the little bird, not so much.

Decide based on the cameras. I own the 600GM and I've spent 4 days with the 600III (same optics as RF600). There is no meaningful difference between the lenses.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight between the two. Thing is I like the Canon zooms and the Sony primes. I think I'll shoot more with the RF 100-500 and Sony 200-600 this winter and then decide. Meanwhile, I will enjoy the posts

A few from last Friday... it's been a challenge to get out lately but hopefully I'll get a few hours on Sunday - weather pending. Apologies on the fox. It was too good to pass up

On the song sparrow there's some CA along the edges which has not been an issue to date with this lens. Probably just pushed it a little to hard with that light. One of the harrier shots is at ISO 10,000 by mistake but it processed OK so just included it

That is a wonderful set of images. I love the juvenile peregrine launch. I asked him to fly at me several times during my last visit w/o success…
