I went on vacation with this lens a few weeks back and I was pretty disappointed with the number of shots that came out back-focused using AF-S. I realized though that I had never updated the firmware version, so I did that today moving from 1.0 to 1.3. I see the notes do mention AF improvements. Did anyone else notice if 1.3 fixes the back-focusing, at least in AF-S?
I upgraded to the latest firmware and didn't see any improvements. I am using it with A7III. I think some people here get more consistent results with this lens, but I think they are using cameras with real time AF like A7C and A7rIV. I have A9 coming soon, so I could try it with that, but at this point I have pretty much decided to move over to Sigma 35I as my main lens.
Now that I've had this lens a few days. It reminds me EXACTLY of my Olympus 17mm 1.2 I had and its feathered bokeh. It has a very similar look...except, the lens isn't 1200.00 bucks.
I really hope they decide to release an 85 or better yet..a 90mm 2.8 that has the same OOF rendering as the 45mm. I...would be...in heaven.
