1260mm, the 200-600 with the 1.4x in crop mode on a7r4 cropped in post too. I had trouble with focus due to all the small intruding branches around this guy. Tracking focus is not useful here. I don't feel like it nailed focus. Has anyone noticed a 'focus shift' forward or backward when using the a7r4 crop mode?
I think it's a red-shouldered. Nice shots of it too.

Pretty impressive. I've been struggling with the 200-600 and the a7riv and AF. Tracking is useless it doesn't stick even with small spot and set to "1".

With the shot of the hawk I started with tracking AF because that's the mode the camera was in when I grabbed it. I switched to small spot AF no tracking. Tracking AF would not work in this situation because of all the small branches. I was talking about a front/back focus. I wouldn't use tracking on perched birds unless they were in a open area of the tree/bush.

Hand-held, Manual mode, 1/125th, F11, ISO 100.
Were you expecting a difference? All crop mode does is do the crop for you in camera. There will be no difference than cropping yourself in post. Crop mode is valuable for saving file size, increasing buffer depth, speeding up clearing the buffer and for getting a magnified view of your subject in the EVF (which may help with placing the focus point where you want it). But it is still taking the same image on the same part of the sensor whether you are in crop mode or FF.

Just handled the display copy at the local pro shop. Not as big as I thought it was going to be.
Need to rent one and compare it to my 600/5.6 ED-IF AIS Nikkor (which is huge and heavy), which I tend to stop down one stop anyways unless the light is really low.
5 minutes after unboxing the 200-600 I’m in my front yard looking for anything to practice on :-). Like a kid at Christmas!
