Thanks .I was back there yesterday and he wasn't residing !!!! All male Northern Harriers have the nickname Grey Ghost according to the real birders. I just like taking pictures of them. Veterans Oasis Park in Chandler is pretty good when they have water in the ponds. Overall the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert is the best place for birding in the Phoenix area.
Our bird season is just starting. If you want to shoot in the summer you have to get up too early (for me) to beat the heat plus there not as many bird species unless you go to elevation outside the city to places like Pinetop and Flagstaff.

My new a9 came a few days ago and I got out with it and the 200-600 + 1.4x for the first time yesterday morning for a few minutes. First time with an a9 after several years with the A7R3 and then a month with the A7R4 (before exchanging it for the A9) … still figuring out the best way to use the camera. I definitely noticed the AF difference and the resolution loss right away. No surprise there. The loss of detail is disappointing. But I haven't had enough experience to take advantage of the AF speed. Any tips from veteran A9 users on the best AF settings (I was just out in the back yard looking at birds hopping around in trees) … here's a few Flicker on Flickr shots ...

Sorry, but if those shots are indicative of your disappointment with loss of detail, I would suggest that is due to your shooting and post-processing skills, not due to the A9.
Pretty well most cameras made in the last ten years will produce better detailed shots than those. As for best AF settings, there are a number of threads already on that subject, as well as on the Sony website.
