You were surprised how little the difference in sharpness between the Canon 600mm mark II and the Sony 200-600mm. I was surprised to see the difference or barely lack thereof between that zoom lens with the GM 600mm even. Upon closer look, I started seeing more of a difference, in addition to the smoother bokeh of the image taken with the prime lens, now, but still not much... Surprise, surprise !...Show more →
I'm sure the other big advantage of the prime will be once you start slapping on TCs....it should hold up a lot better at 1200mm....got to get something for one's $11K

So many GREAT shots! This is killing me. Mine is still waiting to ship. Interesting how so many of the shots are taken at either 600mm or with the TC 1.4. My experience with longer Sigma zooms was always that the majority of my shots were taken at the longest FL. Looks like my Canon 400mm will be leaving my closet

Good to hear about the weight....I always find the 400DOII to feel heavier than it really is. The 200-600 supposedly is identical weight to the 400DOII but then I usually have one or the other TC on the 400DOII so I was hoping the 200-600 would feel better.

Can any of the experienced shooters comment on if the 200-600 without TC can add any significant value to 100-400+TC other than a slight extra reach and slightly faster speed? I'm a total rookie in wild life. Thinking about just learning with an a6400 with 100-400+TC.

But next weekend we'll be going over Roan High Knob on a three day backpacking trip from Hughes Gap to 19E...over the 21 miles we'll have a bit over 10,000 feet of vertical gain (and 14,000 feet of loss). I plan to hang the first night on Roan High Knob in my hammock There will be no camera(s) in the backpack. I've learned to do these hikes with the absolute minimal outlay in weight. My base weight will be right at 10 pounds

For me having f/6.3 vs f/8 makes a difference especially on the A6400 where I try and keep my ISOs a bit lower than on the A7R3 . I also like the internal zoom . If you were to use a tripod, nice that you can balance and not worry about extending the lens. Not sure if these would qualify as significant items for you or most .
I have only spent a small bit of time with the 200-600 since I just got it today. Will try and test it tomorrow with the 1.4TC on both the A6400 and the A7R3.
