I thought I'd miss the semi-macro capabilities of my recently sold 100-400 which I replaced with the 70-200II. However, in addition to the new 70-200, the 200-600 serves as a decent pseudo-macro, as you just have to step back a couple meters. And, of course, it gets "closer" to little brown birds. Some shots taken with the 200-600 on December 17 at a lake adjacent to the DesPlaines River in northern Illinois USA follow.

Looking at a Great Egret in breeding plumage.
Cropped from left and top, tripod mounted 200-600mm G set to 600mm and A7rIII; silent shutter.
ISO 100, f6.3, 1/200 second.
Exposure Corrected +0.44 Stops.

I�ve been working on framing using the rear screen pulled out to get the camera down low to the ground, certainly a fun and new technique for me

Thank you very much, Adam! Yes, the wingspan of an adult burrowing owl can reach 5 feet while their height is slightly less than a foot.
