A quick question: Isee virtually all images of the 200-600G are taken with either the A9(II) or the A7RIV. Does anyone have experience with this lens on the A7RIII, and how does this combo work?
I ask because I have a A7RIII on the way for general shooting, switching back from the Nikon Z7 to Sony for all general shooting (keeping the D500+500PF though), and after all, the A7RIII is thé close competitor to the Nikon Z7 and the Canon R5 if you take mp's into account.
The A7RIII sits in the middle resolution wise, and also I have not heard of any issues from this body with the 200-600G such as the AF issues with the A7RIV....Show more →
I used the 200-600 on my A7R III for several airshows before the A7RIV came out, it worked great, nice and sharp.

Thanks, good to hear that it works well.
I did read up a bit on the 200-600 and A7RIII, and it came back that the phase detect auto focus did not work with the 1.4TC on. So perhaps that is the reason why the A7RIII+200-600 combo was dismissed at an early stage, and certainly now cameras like the Canon R5 eclips the A7RIII for any type of wildlife due to the AF. But as I understand the auto focus does still work with the 200-600+1.4TC, only no tracking.
I will get the A7RIII regardless, because it is primarily for use with the Zeiss Loxia lenses, and I actually like the look of the images from the A7RIII better for this purpose, and 61mp is just too much for general shooting.

If you care to, I have an album on Flickr of shots taken with the a7RIII and the 200-600.
Most of the shots are of stationary birds. The few that are flight shots aren't good examples because of the los shutter speeds.
I didn't use this Combo much after I bought a used a9.

Thanks for the wonderful images, but I settled on a 1299,- A7RII for use with the Zeiss Loxia lenses (re-purchase) after all. The A7RIII is still 2799,- here, and I should really save up and wait for the A9III. Not having full AF with the 1.4TC made the decision for me.

Red Shoulder Hawk returned on another gloomy day. That's when they always show up!? He was big, but a pretty good distance. 1260mm with R4+200-600mm+1.4x+crop mode. Strong backlight of course. From looking at all my pics it was front focusing almost every pic. I'll look into how to micro adj if that's even possible. IS in mode III does not help me hand holding, I had to go back to mode I. Mode III seems to work fine when I balance on the window frame though. So anyway - these are not very good....
