I was out with Geoff (arbitrage) this morning, and when you have calm conditions, there's really nothing to be concerned about. Your main task is to prevent any water drops from finding their way to the camera & lens, and that is easily accomplished with a towel on the floor, folded over the camera when paddling.
Unfortunately I wasn't shooting with a Sony, so all my images had to be tossed.

You probably wouldn't know it from this image thread, but this lens can do sports too.
We played a year up in a soccer tournament this weekend and the 70-200 + 1.4 was going to be too short to shoot the larger field so it was a good opportunity to test out the new lens.
Harsh mid-day sun but it helped keep the ISO higher.
