I've found stopping down even to just f/14 but especially to f/16 really helps the sharpness at 1200mm....of course that makes it even more of a "glaring sun" combo
I didn't have much time to test so resorted to photographing the birds even when they landed on top of my feeder instead of waiting them out to land on the moss....of course my mossy perch really needs a replacement as it is totally sun bleached now.

The southern tip of Vancouver Island and a little bit of Vancouver on the mainland is the northern most range of the Green Heron. They aren't often seen. This one has been hanging around on a lake nearby for the past month or more.

The A7RIV can't do PDAF at f/13 for the 2xTC. However, it can do CDAF...how well that works is anyone's guess. Probably would have been fine for the Pygmy Owl just sitting on the perch.

Photo cross posted in the Sony FE Image Thread and taken last evening at 6:46 PM in totally cloudy flat lighting. This is somewhat disappointing after seeing so many images of animals taken with this lens. None were to be found. I know the lens is sharp from some tests, but do not know if it is as sharp as my 100-400mm GM lens.
