^^^ Thanks Joshua this is very informative. The pileated is actually the largest woodpecker now that the ivory billed is extinct. It is up to about 19 inches long; this was a medium-sized one so I think about 15", and the wingspan could have been nearly 30"!! Until I took this photo I actually didn't realize quite how big the wingspan was for this bird.
There are a number of reasons why I am beginning to think that my future may need a 600/4...! That would be a major investment, indeed, but I can see if the stars align, I just may need to pull the trigger at some point! The fact is, I look at my data for the past 5 months with the 200-600, and literally 99% of the images are zoomed to 600. My only images at less than 600 are nearly stationary wild turkeys.

Ok, where did you find water like that in AZ. If it was in AZ! And I've seen those smaller birds on the Peavine Trail here in Prescott at Watson Lake. Very difficult to get a decent shot. And it doesn't help when the bicycle riders fly by!

As the birds are getting the heck out of this area, some of the larger animals are starting to show themselves.
I seen this guy for many years. He lost his right eye during the rut 2 years ago.
The velvet came off around September 1st, and in the next couple of weeks, his neck will get much larger.
I finally get to take the teleconverters off the cameras.

This is in Tucson at Ina Road. Treated wastewater flows for a few miles in the Santa Cruz River bed creating a lovely riparian habitat. Great place I want to explore more.

As you well know our monsoon season was more a nonsoon season. We had 2.5" of rain this summer in the Prescott area. Lowest on record if I'm correct. Or at least in several decades. And Watson Lake lost about 100 yards plus of shore line since May. Looks like a great place to explore! I'll get down to Tucson someday!
