You jest, but for all the photography I've done the last 3 months and am likely to do the next year, I probably could do that!

Still looks good. I tend not to crop more than approx. 2203x1469, as I can notice the difference when zooming in or pixel peeping, lol.
Not sure what your extra crop would look like when zoomed in, but the A7RIV would allow even more cropping room.

So its the same as mine then with just a little movement from left to right or vice versa. Still have not found out if the colour of the TC is supposed to be more beige/yellow compared to the whiter lens, lol.

Yes. Now I am completely in the habit of giving the lens a slight torque every time I raise the camera to make sure the contacts are tight. Won't be a problem as long as it doesn't degenerate in the future.

Hmnn..how about higher ISO on A7RIV with bare lense at 6.3 vs. A9II with 1.4tc at f9 for similar reach? Sounds like A9 still focuses faster than the A7RIV even with the 1.4tc attached vs. A7RIV With bare lense. So that leaves ISO and Apertures as the next concern between the two combos. Thanks!

AF-wise the A9 II with TC is more sure-footed. Although still fast but kites are not peregrine falcons. In other words, the bare lens on the A7r IV could keep up with kites and still delivered a lot of keepers here. I updated the FW the other day and I am pleased with the results. Not up to that of the A9 II but really not bad, considering that the A7r IV is geared more towards slower-paced photography.

Food transfer from male to female white-tailed kites although this time it was more tree-side rather than mid-air. They do 3 to 5 mid-air transfers in a day while they are raising chicks now. It is really fun to watch and photograph. FYI, I did clone out branches and leaves here.

Btw with the 1.4 TC and A7RIV, does focusing work very well with the new firmware, for pics of a hummingbird at F9 or better when stopped down at F11 to get pics even closer? Thanks.

The 1.4X TC has no noticeable impact in the AF performance in either camera. The addition of the 2X is a different story though. At the same ISO setting under similar conditions, the files generated by the A7r IV is noisier but mostly due to the higher resolution. Resized to the same dimension, the difference is barely noticeable. FYI, I run Topaz Denoise AI on a regular basis. After doing so, there is no difference at all in the files resized to the same magnification. Even at full size the noise level of files from the A7r IV are very minimal, within reasons, of course. Hope this helps.

Good info... would you say the A9ii handles the 2xtc better than the A7RIV? For sake of this discussion I am focused on using the 200600G and not the 600f4. Regardless, I dont think I can give up the faster , blackout free AF on the A9ii. Thanks

I don’t use my 2X TC that often regardless of the camera/lens. Yesterday, I used my GM 600mm on the A7r IV plus either the 1.4X or the 2X TC. The difference in AF performance is noticeable but still I managed to get a few keepers with the 2X. But it was hard to track flying birds at 1200mm, especially if you are dealing with black-outs in the viewfinder. Next time I go back and shoot out there, I will just use the 1.4X TC. BTW, although I took my A9 II with me but I didn’t use it at all yesterday. I just love the details and cropping capability the A7r IV brings about.

A few from this morning with the 200-600mm + 1.4x and the a7r IV. I was using the electronic shutter and should have switched to the mechanical with the hummers in flight. I was using fairly high ISO's.3200, 4000 @ f/9 and ~1/640th
It was 83% humidity when I started and I thought the front element had fogged. All the shots were totally hazy. I checked the front element and it was clear. So was this condensation/haze inside the 200-600mm? I had to wait at 20-30 minutes for it to clear? Anybody have this happen?

I went to this GH nest 7 or 8 times in a span of 4 days a few weeks ago. I was a bit late to the "party" as the chicks were almost fledging, wish I had known about the nest when they were younger.
I didn't quite get to focus on their eyes in some of these shots. They were all shot with the Sony A7RIV and the 200-600 in late afternoon.

I wouldn't even bother with the 2x on the 200-600 regardless of the body. I tried out that combo again yesterday and immediately it disappointed me until I stopped it down to f/16.
In my experience tracking swallows I do notice a decrease in hit rate with even the 1.4TC on the 200-600 from both A9 and A7RIV....well the A7RIV is basically useless with the 1.4 on for swallows and the A9II shows a noticeable decrease in sharp shots from each burst. I also notice from both cameras that putting the 1.4 on the 200-600 and using RTT that you will see many more instances of the camera reverting back to dancing dots and losing the RTT square. The A9II is better with this than the A7RIV.
With the 600GM the 1.4TC really seems to have no affect on the A9 and not much on the A7RIV. Certainly with the 2xTC the tack sharp hit rate goes down on both cameras. Again A9II better than A7RIV.

On last month's trip, one one day in Nebraska I spotted 4 GHOs. Two were imageable. One on a 10,000 acre ranch abutting the Ballard Marsh WMA where we ran into a man on a four wheeler asking if we were lost...me answering no, we're looking for critters to which he asked what kind? I answered anything living and moving but I'm always looking for owls.
Next thing you know Poof and I are in the rancher's 4 wheeler because he said I can show you three 'horns' in 5 minutes. I asked if we could drive there gesturing toward our camper...he said no but I can take in the 4 wheeler!
I steadied as best as I could.
Ripped off 20+ shots handheld.
Then in PScc took the 10 best, then stacked them in Zerene haha!

Thank you!! Great information!! You still finding the A7RIV more reliable now with FW 1.20? Might get one as a second body
Thanks again !!

A9 and 200-600, both new to me as of last week. Was using A6400 and Sigma 150-600 C - and was very happy with them, but the new combo is something else, wow.
