no you are understanding as that was exactly what I wanted to know, whether or not the automatic incease in aperture of f9 with the TC was the same stopping it down, because the aperture was increased to what it is stopped down.
So at f11 with the TC this is stopping the bare lens down, and is why it is as sharp as stopping down only then, but still wide open at f9 with the same sharpness as 6.3.

I would think that's the results are telling you the TC is working as it should. If you're getting the same sharpness wide open with and without the TC, that's about all you can ask for.

Thanks. It was with the increase in aperture of f9 with the TC I had thought that was stopping it down, but understand now it is the lens still wide open.

I know this is a odd question to ask, but is it normal that the 1.4 teleconverter paint colour is more of a yellow/beige tint to it, not matching the 200-600mm which is whiter. Thanks.
