I really like #11 the Purple Throated Woodstar ... and #3 Shiny Sunbeam! They are all very well captured and composed KD, but these 2 are my favorites!

This trip is even more special because you got to share these memories with your son. I cannot wait until my boy is old enough to where we can go do similar things.

Thanks for the comment and viewing. I had the 500 mm with 1.4x and it was sufficient for the most part. Only a couple times did I need more reach. However, the focus speed with the 1.4 is slower than that of the prime. So if you are concerned about the weight, carry a tx instead of the 600 mm. Just my 2 cents.
I also carried 100-400 on another body
On my trip in February and March to Costa Rica I had the 80-400mm, 500mm PF, and the 600mm f/4 lens and used the 600mm rough 10% of the time. In most locations 600mm was too long a focal length and the 500mm was barely short enough in terms of the view angle even when photographing birds.
At least for Costa Rica a 500mm and 1.4x TC work very well and I miss fewer shots from having too long a focal length lens.

Just a terrific collection kdacharya. I particularly like birds in flight and of those in this set the Carunculated Caracara in flight is my favorite.

Hi Bruce,
there were a couple of places I felt that 600 with 1.4 would have been better than the 500 with the 1.4
having said that, clearly the extra weight does not warrant the 600. while it is true that 600 could be too much lense, since most of the subjects (hummers) are small, that would not be the case, however maneuverability is essential so my choice was the 500 and a 100-400
Hope that helps.
