Wow what a great set. You brought a couple different sets of gear it looks like. Any thoughts on the 5DIV vs the 1DX? I would think that for perched birds, the 5DIV would offer more resolution and potential for cropping, but everybody always raves about the 1D AF. Of course all these images look great, so evidently they both work fine.
thanks so much Tim for viewing, commenting and your support. You are absolutely correct regarding the 5D4 and the 1DX.
I used 5d4 for the perched one and also for the low light ones. 1DX really showed its strength for the in flight birds, but suffered in low light.

Thanks for the comment and viewing. I had the 500 mm with 1.4x and it was sufficient for the most part. Only a couple times did I need more reach. However, the focus speed with the 1.4 is slower than that of the prime. So if you are concerned about the weight, carry a tx instead of the 600 mm. Just my 2 cents.
I also carried 100-400 on another body

Like very much the off center placement of the birds in so many of the pictures. The
Carunculated Caracara in flight though is a terrific image that I could easily see printed at life size or even larger.
I will be with Luis in August of next year and your images are very convincing that this is a great trip with an excellent guide. As trips go this is one of the least demanding in terms of time driving to get to locations and that is quite appealing.
When I asked Luis whether to take the Nikon 500mm PF lens with my 80-400mm or to bring the 600mm f/4 he said that with the expected distances the 500mm would work very well if not better. That saves me about 10 lbs or more in travel gear with the lighter lens and no need for a tripod.
How good was the multi-flash setup that Luis provided?...Show more →
