Interesting! If Fringer's reverse engineering effort is different from TechArt's, they may have gotten a better result. They're certainly more active on posting/updating--this is potentially great news, since it shows they are aware of the problem we discovered here:
"Added support for lenses without electronic contacts. Unlike Nikon FTZ adapter, when installed on Fringer EF-NZ adapter, lenses without electronic contacts also get the green square focus indication at the focus point position. When this function greatly helps a lot of manual lens users, it has a drawback. The Non-CPU Lens Data menu item doesn’t work anymore. Without correct focal length data, the IBIS function of certain Z cameras, e.g. Z6 and Z7, doesn’t work properly. To fix this, we added manual lens focal length input function."
I skimmed the linked instruction manual, and it looks like they've included an active adapter programming step from the Z body, similar to the Dandelion programming process. This probably means it's one (expensive) adapter per lens, unless you want to do a button dance on every lens change.

so that Fringer EF-NZ would be the easiest solution then?
Since I have Leica R to EF (as well as m42 to EF and all other kinds of mounts to EF) adapters anyways.
Added benefit:
I could simply use my chipped adapters from m42 to EF and get the correct IBIS function, because I was able to store EXIF information on those dandelion chips.
But all I actually want, is the green AF square confirming my focus when using my Leica R and m42 lenses.

Are there any Techart owners that have tried the Sony 200-600mm lens on a Nikon Z body yet? I am curious if the same issues that show up on the A7R IV also show up on the Z7 or Z50 which has a higher pixel density than the A9 and the Z6.

My copy of the Tamron 70-180mm 2.8 just came in, adapted to the Z7 with the Techart. Quick thoughts relative to having used the 70-300 AF-P FX extensively until now:
– Focusing speed is about the same in normal light, the 70-180 moves more hurriedly as light levels get lower, with a more visible snap-in transition.
– Image quality is about as I’d hoped; no complaints wide open throughout the range, but I wouldn’t pit it against a native optic like the 70-200S. Not confident saying much more here yet.
– Ergonomic balance is about the same as the 5oz lighter 70-300 since it’s not as suspended towards the front with the FTZ.
– Barrel size is remarkably identical to the 70-300 without the FTZ attached.
– Zoom turns the same way as Nikon Z, phew!
– Stabilization was my biggest concern but delivers like native lenses; 1/20 @180mm is consistently sharp even with a bit too much caffeine this morning. For reference, ¼ is my low end of comfort with the 24-70 f4.
– It doesn’t like to focus from distant (10ft+) focus down to MFD, increasingly so at the long end. Zooming out or turning the manual focus ring to suggest the near object closer into focus gets you there. Not having a dedicated Sony body on hand, I can’t confirm if this is an adapting issue or model-specific issue.

In case there is anyone who is not aware yet, TechArt has released V3 of the TZE-01 firmware.
There was no mention of this anywhere on their site. Only when launch the “Updater App” then you’ll see v3 on the list.
It seems to work with the new Tamron 28-200 and surprisingly IBIS is incredibly steady even at 200mm.
I am not sure if this improvement is only on this specific lens or finally TechArt has fixed the IBIS issue to support different FLs. Does anyone have a good testing method?

Testing is quite easy. Just pick a time when correct exposure would require a shutter speed about half of 1/focal length and shoot about 50 or 100 shots refocussing each time with IBIS on and IBIS off and count how many pictures were in with it on and off. If you get just about as many in focus with it off as with it on IBIS is not doing what it should be doing. If you get a lot more in focus with IBIS on than IBIS off, then it is working pretty well. You can slow the shutter speed more with further tests to see just how effect IBIS is.

Steve's method is great and will give solid, reportable results. A really quick and easy test is to simply look through the viewfinder at 200mm with magnification on, and toggle ibis on and off a few times. It should be obvious at that length if it's working.
I am *very* interested in a TZE with working IBIS, so please do share results!

On further thought, it's a bit more complicated on an automatic lens, since there are actually three modes:
1. IBIS on, working properly
2. IBIS on, but "set" to 50mm (observed TZE behavior)
3. IBIS off.
I *think* 200mm is far enough away to distinguish case 1 and 2, but maybe not. With manual lenses it's possible to guarantee case 1 by taping over the contacts and setting the focal length in the non-CPU menu. With an autofocus lens, that may still work, but it may also be tricky to do--you may have to load 200mm in the non-CPU menu, focus the lens normally, then turn it slightly to disconnect the electronic coupling, without changing the focus, to get to case 1 for comparison

updated to the 3.0 firmware today and focus performance using the 24 GM is like it was made for this camera. It was never that bad but you could tell there is some translation going on. Today it is lights out fast and you would never guess a Sony is attached to the Z7.

I don't know about other lenses because I only had time to test one lens today.
Basically I could handhold the GM135 on the Z7 down to 1/13s and still got a sharp image every second shot, and at 1/15s the combo is giving me 90% images without visible blur.
It seems Techart has fixed the IBIS issue (at least on some lenses) and I am just surprised this breakthrough has been a hidden secret for who knows how long!

Great news.
But though stabilizing tele’s is nice and important, test at 10-15mm if you want to see if it’s actually fixed. Under stabilizing a tele makes it a bit less sharp, but the TZE would over-stabilize an untrawide, giving you blur even when it should be sharp, like 1/50 at 12mm.

More great news, I tested Sony 12-24 this morning, and at both ends I could get sharp images down to 1/4s handheld which is phenomenal performance of the Z7 IBIS.

Maybe skipping coffee this morning helped too
Now we're getting somewhere. The Voigtlander 12mm was unusable with IBIS, so Sony working well at 12 is quite promising.

My Voigtlander 110 f2.5 work great with Techart V3.0. I can shoot with 1/8s with very good result. I hope someone will confirm the Voigtlander 21 f1.4 with Z IBIS.

I keep getting "no device found" after I google translate the error message. My adapter has been doing this for a while and have tried no less than 10 cables with the same issue.....
