I am really interested in the Sony 10-18mm and the Sony Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 for APS-C. Nothing comparable is yet on the road map (yes I know the 24mm f1.8 Z mount is an option, but it is MUCH bigger than the Sony/Zeiss).
Anyone try these lenses yet on the Z-50?

Any confirmation on what Samyang lenses work on the TZE-01? If not, I'll be testing the Samyang 18mm 2.8, 45mm 1.8, 35mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4 and Sony 70-200mm f4 FE lenses all next week. I can chime in on which ones work and those that don't. I believe the Sam 35mm and 85mm 1.4 lenses work based on a previous Youtube video. The 45mm I saw tested had wonky aperture, but I believe it was running older firmware. I haven't heard anything about the Sam 18mm 2.8 working though.

@jJonathan F - I'm really interested in the results of using the Samyang 18/2.8 with the TZE-01 and the latest Nikon firmware (v3.0). Would you post to let me know how that has worked out for you. Thanks.

Unfortunately the Sam 18mm and 45mm do not work properly with the TZE-01 adapter with the latest firmware on lens, adapter and camera. It will AF, but the aperture does not properly display on a Z camera. The Samyang 35mm and 85mm 1.4 lenses do work properly. Also the 70-200mm f4 FE and 28-70mm lenses work very well. There's a bit of wiggle play when mounting Sony glass to the adapter and I also found it a bit of hassle to remove the adapter from the lens.
After trying it, I don't think it's worth the hassle using unless there's a Sony mount lens that you REALLY want to use on the Z mount. I'd get it for one-off lenses like the Sigma 35mm 1.2 Art or something not available in either F or Z mounts.

Jonathan - Thanks for the feedback. Dissapointing about the Samyang 18/2.8. It would have been ideal for my purposes. I'm getting good initial results with the Sony 50/1.8 (the one we're told is no good), including subject/eye tracking.

I'm really hoping Samyang will be able to port their AF lenses to the Z mount. They really are an excellent price/performance value.

Agreed.

You can get pretty close to the Samyang in price and size (a couple hundred bucks more and a couple hundred grams more) with the Nikon F 20 f/1.8 G on the FTZ, which has the advantage of having a stop and a third faster max aperture. The size and the price of the Samyang, however, is an appealing option. If you wanted something similar in size and were willing to forgo AF, the CV 21 f/3.5 is a good performer and tiny and does work with the TZE.

To be sure, The Nikkor 20/1.8 G is a cracking lens and is the one I use for wider shots at the moment. But the badly designed FTZ is always in the way, and, together with the lens, makes for more lens mass than I want to put up with. I originally thought I would get on fine with my F-mount lenses, but I just find the whole thing irksome and distracting.
The new Z-mount 20/1.8 is slated to be somewhat larger than the F-mount lens and it makes me wonder what type of photographers Nikon imagines are the early adopters of the Z system. I'm just not prepared to pay more, for a bigger, heavier lens, for ever-decreasing returns on IQ.

I don't mind the FTZ at all. I am pretty happy with it and much happier than I am with the TZE. The TZE is quirky to the extreme, hard to get on an off, and seems not even quite beta. Don't get me wrong, I am still glad to have it, and find it useful for some lenses, but I much prefer the FTZ that functions very well in almost all circumstances. I don't find the FTZ badly designed at all. Sure it would nice if it was smaller, but it is much more important to me that it works and unlike the TZE the FTZ does work in providing quality AF, good functioning IBIS, and excellent control of aperture. None of those things can be said about the TZE.

Is that the case? I was under the impression that the aperture was massively out when you used the Samyang 35mm with the TZE, has that been fixed in the latest firmware?

The Samyang 35mm 1.4 lens works fine, it's the 35mm 2.8 lens that has issues. I'm not sure why the Samyang 1.4 primes work, but not the 2.8 primes? Though I'm not holding my breath that Techart will address this issue.

Hi!
I had TZE about one month and realised that it won't allow infinity focus with my Voigtlander 21mm 1.4 lens. It only reach about 10-15 metres. I thought that it was too thick and ordered Pixco dumb adapter. Pixco do allow to focus infinity and past infinity.
I returned TZE back to seller and kept Pixco. I was thinking if someone have same problem. TZE was, in other case, very nice and solid adapter. Could it be sample variation with TZE?

I have no problem getting infinity focus. There may well be sample variation. It does fine with manual focus lenses, just with the issues noted earlier in the thread.

Can you elaborate the limitations? In my experience, it will work in manual focus mode with af lenses, but not with dumb lenses (no exif/af).

It works with Zeiss Loxia and Voigtlander MF Sony E mount lenses (with these lenses you get EXIF data, but of course no AF; these lenses are designed to be MF lenses) and it works with my Laowa 15 f/2 as well (which has no electronic contacts what you call a dumb lens; it does not provide EXIF with such lenses nor AF, of course, but you can manually focus and shoot with these lenses and with the caveat below metering works fine and performance is fine; you also can't use the green focus box focussing mode with such lenses whereas with the Loxia and Voigtlander lenses you can). So if you think it doesn't work with MF lenses, then you are mistaken. Of course it doesn't provide AF with MF lenses, but I would think that is rather obvious. The Loxia and Voigtlander lenses (and all MF lenses) work much the same as on a Sony camera with the two glitches I describe below.
With any lenses with electronics it messes with the IBIS as I demonstrated earlier in the thread. The TZE seems to tell the camera all lenses with electronic contacts are 50mm lenses for the purposes of IBIS, so it has terrible IBIS performance with wide angle lenses and poor IBIS performance with telephoto lenses. If you read the thread you will see there is also a potential issue with stopping down below f/5.6 with the Loxia and Voigtlander lenses or any lens with a manual aperture control. If you match the aperture on the camera and the lens the metering will be off when stopped down narrower than f/5.6 (any wider aperture this works fine). The work around is to either set the camera to max aperture or adjust the metering using exposure compensation. All of this is described more thoroughly earlier in the thread.
I sometimes use the TZE with my Voigtlander 21, but when I do I shut off IBIS, which of course is good practice anyway if you are shooting from a tripod. I have zero problem getting infinity focus when I do. I typically use the TZE with my CV 50 f/1.2 where I appreciate the green box focussing and for this lens the IBIS works quite well, although not quite as well as IBIS on the Sony where the Voigtlander lenses, but not the Loxia lenses, have 5-axis IBIS. On the Z cameras with the TZE Voigtlander lenses only have 3-axis IBIS and as described above the adapter seems to assume the lens is a 50mm lens.
