No, not really for the ergonomics. Still feels a bit like a puffed up childs toy. Favorite grip & controls is still the A7II/A7RII. But the Z's have some advantages, and a better joystick than the MkIII Sonys.
I do have the 35S, it's a real good lens as is the 50S. Nikon found a happy middle ground between size and quality. I think Sony did the same with the 85 anyway, otherwise all their small lenses are compromised and their excellent lenses are huge.

I thought you switched for the body/grip? Do you own the Nikkor 35/1.8S?
You can always use this lens on a Z via an adapter.

Interesting that it is the same basic spec as the 35/1.8 Sony released for aps-c in 2012. I wonder if it will be of similar price point?
The 35/1.8 E (APS-C) has also got OSS, which I guess won’t be in the 35/1.8 FE.
What are “all the options” for 1.8 max aperture 35mm native FE mount lens? There are 35mm options, but not at 1.8 and the appropriate price point people are hoping for.

If this turns out to be a real lens, you know the complaining will start it's "too big" and should have been an f/2 or f/1.9 or something.
You know no one here will ever be happy with the the 35mm focal length despite all the options out there. 😀

Making a good 85 is easier than making a 35/1.8. So it won’t be as good as a short tele. I will be happy if its like 28/2 with landscape sharpness at F8. 28 bokeh is great, and this lens should follow.
I am happy that its a FE so it will be small. A bloated GM is no good. I need some character and not OTT sharpness.
Essentially, a 50mm f1.8 in 35 form.
I do believe that Sony should offer outstanding performance like the 85. 5 years ago, they might be able to get away with sub par, not these days, they've got competition.
All Samyang/Rokinon etc branded lenses need a lens dock for FW updates to be bought at an extra cost. That is an issue.
Glad that your copy does not seem to have the infinity issue or show onion rings.
Must be golden!

First off I’m not having any issues, so it’s actually functioning quite well and it’s been full tested against a CV 50 1.2 and tested quite well against it. I’m just not putting any stock into this Sony 1.8 yet. Need to realize I’ve been through 5 count them 5 Sony 35 1.4 lenses. I’m cursed on 35mm lenses from Sony. Will see but until I test it I’m just not having a great feeling on this one. Honestly I’m rarely wrong but I would love it if I am. We will see .
I'm really hoping for a 35mm 1.8 /2 that is at least G related and if not a GM and with aperture control on the lens. At the moment I'm using my 24GM either in crop mode on the A7rIII or on the A6400
Too close to 24GM to me. If it were 40mm f/2 Batis competitor, I’ll be tempted. Owning 24mm GM and 85mm GM is enough to ignore other temptations in the range.

Interesting. 24 and 35 are wildly different in my eyes. For instance, I'd almost never shoot a human at 24.
No way, I was literally in the process of selling off my entire Sony system because of the lack of this type of lens. I'm a little wary that is isn't labeled a G lens though, I would feel conformable assuming its quality if it had been. A 35 isn't going to be as easy to design for rendering quality as their 85mm was, but it its within like 15% of the 85mm F1.8 I'll be thrilled! I seriously don't want buy and sell like 12 things just to get my favorite way to shoot (35-43mm F1.4-2 or equivalent, small enough to have the camera body in one cargo pocket, and the lens in another). Sony has pushed me to the absolute edge by not have this normal type of lens, it's sheer luck that I didn't get around to selling my gear last winter like I intended too.

The latest SAR rumor I read has it as a G lens, which would be great.
The product code (what this entire rumor is based off of) shows it will not be a G or GM lens.
SEL35F18F indicates a non-G or GM as all of those have the G or GM in their product name. The F on the end is not used on other lenses but since there is already SEL35F18 corresponding to the APS-C 35/18, the extra F must indicated it is a FF lens.
EDIT: actually F is used on the 50/1.8 product code (SEL50F18F) so there is precedence for the extra F and that is likely because of the SEL50F18 APS-C lens.
Yeah I think it will definitely be a consumer grade lens. I wish they would bring out a 35mm with the 24mm GM qualities. Great sharpness but retaining lovely bokeh. There is nothing like that at the moment as they all have comprises. I find the Sigma 40mm I have closest to what I want so far but the bokeh still suffers a little at certain distances.... (apart from my RX1rII that is!!). I know they can do it after the 24 GM came out!
Maybe the rumored Sigma 35mm native design will be the one....

I have the feeling it will be inexpensive, light and good (not great) just like the FE 28/2. Would love to be wrong though.

It seems likely that it will fall into the same quality and performance range as the 35/2.8, the 55/1.8, and the 85/1.8. All of those are excellent, sharp, and well-corrected lenses. Since Sony is not going for a huge aperture on this one, its performance characteristics could be quite good while its size makes it easy to travel and work with.
