Well got mine today and ran it through its paces. Thank god it's a well centered copy though I've personally never had any problems with Sony lenses. At 600 mm it's very sharp. Definitely as sharp as the 100-400 with tc which I also own. I also threw my 1.4 tc on the 200-600 and again I am impressed with the sharpness at 840 mm. Just ran tests with and without the tc on both the rii and a6400. i can see one thing I really really like about this lens especially when comparing it against the 100-400. Because the zooms extends internally it's much handier to use on my gimble mount as the balance point never changes which is somewhat inconvienant with telescoping zooms. Another thing I noted the reach with the a6400 and 1.4 tc is ridiculous especially with the amount of detail retained even with the tc. In short for anyone on the fence I got two words for you. Buy it

Some of you may have read my earlier posts about the problem with my order from B&H.
Much to my surprise and delight, I received details that it is shipping today overnight for delivery Monday !!!!
Henry, I don't know what you did or how you did it, but I am most grateful for your help in this. Once again B&H has shown how they really work to resolve an issue. Thank you.
Birdie
Good! Unfortunately, B&H couldn't fix their error with my order, so instead of overnight shipping it is 3 business days. I don't get mine until Tuesday. Meanwhile you all are out there shooting away and I am waiting for FedEx…

I had made plans to take mine to a Blue Angels practice the 7th, which was then changed to next week when Sony delayed the launch. Now changed again to the 20th...but from the latest I’ve been told, that’s probably not going to happen either.

The parcel is in Richmond, but it has to go to Victoria and then Nanaimo before they bring it over here. Hopefully Geoff doesn't try to intercept it...

The Wimberley Foot is very tight but mine does fit. Be sure to loosen the screw on the side of the foot before you try to install it.
Yes, the Wimberly foot is perfect. So perfect it is some effort to install. Push and minute amount of wiggle and repeat up to 3 times. Once it is there it is perfectly machined.
I still added blue loctite to the threads as per habit.
Walked around a bit holding the cam/lens combo via the foot and it's not bad at all.
So Douglas I too thought at first a non-fit. But a bit of persistence in mine worked. Copy variation in everything so maybe yours just doesn't.

Thanks for the update Robert. I guess I was not supposed to slide it in like the Sony foot. I tried several times but it wouldn't go in so I sent it back to BH. If the Kirk foot has the same release mechanism like their foot for the 100-400GM, which is the same as the Sony foot, I will be very happy.

On the 500PF I changed feet three times! Finally settling. I may not be done with this one yet. Hagnar (spelling??) is my favorite of the three....but might not ever be possible for a Sony.

I’m waiting for the RRS replacement foot to become available. I like using the QD system and RRS machined a hole in their 100-400 replacement foot, so I’m expecting it to be on their 200-600 foot as well. In fact, the RRS website photo of the 200-600 foot shows the lens hanging from the QD attachment point.

I'm a big fan of the QD system. I won't buy any new plates that don't have it. Makes it so easy to switch from strap to sling to harness.

Thanks Mike, I learned about the QD system here on FM...and if I remember correctly, I think it from you? Thanks!

It’s probably already sold, but I let my copy of the 200-600 go from Berger Camera in New York. The mfd really turns me off. It just arrived the other day, but I demurred on the purchase.
Decided to do 100-400 with 1.4x and a7r4. Not exactly apples to apples, but more useful for our needs.
Edit: Ease of transport was prob number two reason I passed. Maybe we will buy it later on, but not for now.

That's too bad, the Blue Angels would have been a perfect event to test the lens. And waiting until the 20th will be like waiting for Christmas.

I'm with you Tony....exactly what mine says although it was scanned in Mississauga after leaving London (not UK). If one wants fast shipping and no PST then TheCameraStore always ships ExpressPost so you get it next day or the day after. But after the generous favour I received from CameraCanada on my 500PF, I'm loyal to them from now on even if it takes longer to get here.

Just placed an order with another retailer that confirmed they had it in stock to ship today. As soon as I get a tracking number I’ll be cancelling my B&H order.

Where did you get yours from? TCS? They didn't send it Express Post? I thought they always did.
They were supposed to send it Priority so I would have received it yesterday... but the shipping department apparently didn't get the message... possibly because the owner is away on holidays.
