For anyone looking still. I just purchased one from ProCam. Sony showed they had stock on their website.
Called and they confirmed they had some on hand, I have a tracking number already and told it was shipping out today.
I had an order in with Dell last week, but they still haven't confirmed they have any lenses even though they are showing it would deliver to me tomorrow. I cancelled that order and went with ProCam.

Hi gang ! First time posting here. I'm a little late to the party, and ordered from Henry's a couple of weeks ago. Just wondering if anyone has info on when Henry's (Canada) will be fulfilling their orders?

The problem with these images is that he shot too far from the players, leaving a really bad DOF issue. I'd treat it more like my 100-400 when shooting field sports. Shoot tight, close action only. That will help with the background junk issues. Shooting across the field and not filling the frame with a player is exactly how not to shoot this lens. I know Pat and all I can think is that he was too rushed to get the lens back to Sony and didn't give it his best. Because, yeah, these images are not flattering at all.
I have the 400 2.8 GM, but will probably get this lens based on some of the good results I'm seeing. It could be great for some day action when I want to shoot really tight that the 400 doesn't always allow for on a football or soccer field. But mostly I see it as a wildlife lens. Which is not a bad thing.

I placed an order with Dell last Friday morning (it is now Monday morning) and even though I was told on the phone in no uncertain terms that they had the lens "in stock" I never got confirmation of this in writing and my order was never advanced beyond the "order confirmed" stage. I got the distinct impression that they didn't actually have the lens in stock, so I tried to cancel the order via email, online, and, finally on the phone this morning. I still haven't received written confirmation of the order cancellation. I don't know if Dell is just not very organized or if they are trying to string customers along, but I was not impressed. I think that I have cancelled my order with them, but I still have no written proof of this. Ugh.
As an interesting side note, when I spoke to the customer service rep on the phone to cancel he asked me why I was cancelling. I told him that I had decided that the price was too high. He came right back at me with an offer to knock $100 off the price. I declined. He then asked me if a larger discount might get me to change my mind. I thought this was quite interesting considering that no authorized retailer is supposed to sell Sony products below MSRP. I still declined, largely because I am not convinced that they actually have this lens in stock.
Along this same line, I should also note that I put in a pre-order for the Sony 600 f/4 lens at Adorama the day that they started accepting pre-orders and a few days later I got cold feet and called to cancel the order (they made it impossible to cancel the order online and required a phone call, which I found both annoying and tacky). The customer service rep at Adorama did the exact same thing and asked me if I would consider keeping my order if they lowered the price of the lens. I declined the offer. We never talked actual numbers.
I imagine this is not an uncommon practice based on these two experiences. Have any of you had similar experiences? Seems as though some dealers are willing to play a bit loose with MSRP if they think they can do it out of the public eye. Kind of like your own private Greentoe or something.

I cancelled the Dell order online this morning and it showed confirmed cancelled and I got en email confirming it. I just checked my CC, the original charge and a refund are both pending. Yea I got the same impression that even though they said they had the lens in stock when I ordered it, the second call back was they are 1-2 days out. Sorry for referring them!

The tracking number shows UPS NDA and ready for pickup. I checked back every once in a while and saw the available lenses go from 2 to 1 and now they are all gone.

I order from Henrys Thornhill first day of the announcement with deposit and got the lens on Friday. There are other 200-600 ready for pickup.

Just now got my Dell cancellation confirmation! Yay! Took them five hours to confirm my cancellation but they finally came through. I'm virtually certain they didn't have the lens in stock. Pretty loose operation IMHO.
In the meanwhile, shortly after you posted about ProCam I cruised over to their web site and was able to nab what I think was the last one they had in stock. Shipping today. Got my UPS tracking number! Should be in my hands by Friday. And I saved a couple hundred dollars to boot compared to Dell.
So thanks very much for the tip re ProCam. Appreciate the heads up.

Whew that's good to hear. I felt bad for all the Dell issues after I posted about it. I saved almost $100 as well going with Procam and that's with Next Day shipping. Glad that worked out for both of us!

Definitely not his best work. A lot of soft images and that video could have 5 min instead of 28

Mine arrived today UPS. Kind of strange packaging. They used a long box that I typically get roll paper for my large format printer delivered in. Won't have time until Friday test it out but I plan to do some head to head with the Canon 400 2.8 + 1.4TC if for no other reason that this has been my main birding setup all year and the 200-600mm will be replacing that use case.
