I just checked with my dealer (not one of the big boys), he said Sony hasn't shipped the lenses to any dealers. I don't know which is true. I am ok if they really ship on Aug 9.

Interesting. The Sony rep I spoke to indicated this was a very large preorder cycle for the 200-600. Yep. Lot of people waiting a long time for this lens 😉

At the "meeting" several weeks ago at the Sony center here in LA, they acknowledged that they were caught off guard by the demand of the GM 24mm lens. And now, they anticipate an even larger demand for the 200-600mm lens. I mentioned this in a different thread, the pricing of this lens is just right on the money. Have you noticed on a wildlife/bird photography trips locally, how many folks use the 150-600mm lens? Mostly those lenses are Sigmas and a few Tamrons. The popularity of the zoom lens in this FL range is huge because they are more than decent and they are affordable. And Sony needs to price the lens well within reach of the weekend wildlife shooters and that they did. I almost can assure you that 70-80% of those folks that adapt the 150-600mm lens onto their Sony right now, will buy this new 200-600mm lens. And that's not enough, Sony would like to see folks on the other camp to switch to Sony.
Again, the bottom line here is, Sony is fully aware that these lenses will be in demand and they are doing whatever they can to provide ample supply of this lens. They also know that if people are given some time to think while waiting for their order or pre-order to be filled, there is a chance that they may reconsider the move. So, providing ample supply of this lens at the beginning is the key....

I am one of those Tamron 150-600 guys! I bought the G1 the first day available ( astounding lens in its day at that price point). You are right, Sigma and Tamron all over the wildlife places I frequent.
But now its all GM 100-400 for me. You can get pretty close to some wildlife here in Florida so 400 can be a real option. I do however, get a lot of questions about the GM 100-400 + 1.4xTC. It's the silent shutter that usually starts the conversations even from some very well known names that frequent this area too. Can't wait to wield the 200-600. Look no TC !

I believe only certain countries in Europe had some inventories. I just checked "digitalrev", a big online retailer in Hong Kong, it didn't even list the Sony 200-600. If you look at eBay, there are only two for sale from the same seller in Japan, for only $3099/each. Canada doesn't have it either. I highly doubt it's tariff related but let's not get side tracked on that topic.

I have been told by my local dealer that lens should be available for sale on Friday the 9th. And they have long list of people awaiting so it's going to be very popular lens.

Just got a call from my dealer in Canada that they expect their lenses tomorrow and he wanted my CC info so I guess I have one allotted to me. He confirmed there is an embargo on shipping them out but I think he said Thursday the 8th.... Whether 8th or 9th, I still won't get it till the following Monday regardless with shipping times and the weekend in the way.

As previously noted, the big boys are a day or two later than the smaller stores in terms of either receiving lenses from Sony distributor or shipping the new arriving lenses to the customers. I am not sure why but the bottom line is, their customers end up receiving theirs later. Not that every day counts, but....pretty much like that .

Well I am having absolutely no luck at this point selling anything on B/S boards. I will have to lower the price of some items and probably post the items for sale on another Forum (not eBay). So at this point a no go for the lens or any of the soon to be released cameras for me.

It's amazing this thread hit 60 pages before the lens is even shipped! Sony should have launched this lens 2 year ago. Just received the Wimberley foot, well made as usual. The Lenscoat for $99 is a bit rich for a couple pieces of rubber.
