In June I placed a preorder on Amazon Spain for the 200-600mm at a special price.
I paid with credit card, they took the whole sum immediately and still have no idea when availability will be. Likely in October.

I have been using my 100-400mm plus the 1.4X TC quite a bit lately and I can surely understand Mitesh’s position more and more. My move is more an act of “desperation”, for lack of a better word, for getting a native lens with a native reach (without TC, that is) of 600mm. I still reserve my right to change my mind.... .

I got mine a week ago, but because I'm busy with work and other stuff don't have the time to use it . Best I could do was to fire off a few test shots at buildings to see whether the lens was a lemon. Thankfully mine isn't. Things looked good from wide open at 600mm.

It has been available for over a week over there and on this part of the Pacific, we still have to wait for another week. What's wrong with that picture. Did somebody put in an embargo on goods coming from Japan or is that entirely manufactured in China now? Well, as long as they don't tag on the additional tariffs, whatever percentage that may be.... .

I phoned Murphy's camera yesterday. I'm at 3rd on the list and they are seeing a shipment due in on the 9th. They don't know how many lenses they will get. I was recommended this store by GM Photography for my 24 GM and they have been outstanding.

Sorry I'm late, been hiking in the Smokies trying out the new Tam 17-28.
I'm good with the fates however they may land. As mentioned prior if the 200-600 doesn't get here I'll
just suffer the 500PF and do what I can do. Very very kind of you to offer my friend I appreciate it.

I just spoke to B&H about my order, placed on the very first day. They have the lenses in stock, but Sony has placed a "ship hold" on them until 8/9. I guess I won't have mine in time for Kando 3.0 (I'm driving there and taking my time) but perhaps I'll be able to borrow one there. I will be bringing my 100-400 and the 1.4 TC though.

I wonder what's the rationale of Sony placing the hold on shipping if dealers have them at their warehouse already? It's not like they are shipping before the original shipping day, Aug 2. It's already late.

I'll bet you'll get a chance to try the 200-600 at Kando 3.0. Please let me know how it goes. I was very interested in 3.0, maybe next year for me.
Someone from Sony told me USA availability date was bumped to Aug 9th, but I didn't ask why. I was wondering if the recent USA tariff situation had anything to do with it. But if B&H says they have them in stock already on ship hold...that is curious.

An explanation that I can think of would be the low number of this lens in the first batch. By delaying the shipment a week, they technically could combine the first two batches into one and they, meaning Sony, would look good in providing ample supply rather than letting the supply trickle in, so to speak. I dunno though...
