If their claim of TCs only supporting GM lenses is valid, no 200-600 will be compatible with 1.4x and 2.0x...
Sony’s Norwegian language pages do not say «only», they just mentions compatibility with current lenses.. The page for the 2x TC doesn’t even list the 400/2.8 GM as compatible, while the 400/2,8 GM page lists both TCs as compatible. I don’t think we can read forward looking statements from the current web pages, about compatibility with future products.

I agree with that but Sony's lenses have been really superb performers and I really wouldn't think that the lens would perform subpar to the GM 100-400mm lens PLUS the 1.4X TC in both optical characteristics and AF performance. I think that's pretty much a safe bet. Now, the compatibility with at least the 1.4X TC is a less safe bet, however. But, yet I am pretty convinced that the 1.4X TC will work on that lens. We will find out in approximately 24 hours from now...
I think the 200-600 will fall somewhere between the Sony 100-400, and the 3rd party 150-600 lenses.
I think the AF will be sightly slower than the 100-400, but a bit better than the adapted lenses.
If it can't take a tc, it's DOA for me.
The next question will be, what do you think the Min focal distance will be?
My Sigma 150-600c is something like 9 feet, the Sony 100-400 If I remember right is about half of that.
So, if the new lens has IQ as good as the 100-400, if it focuses as fast and as accurate as the 100-400,
if it has a MFD somewhere near the 100-400, and if it can take tc's like the 100-400, I'd probably buy it and sell the 100-400.
If the new lens lacks just about anything from the list above, I'd be hard pressed to switch to the larger, heavier lens.
The other way that I could see me buying this, is if it's somehow optimized for the a6400 and future APS-C cameras
with the newer tracking modes. I don't know if that could happen, but I'll throw it out there.

Dave, the point I was trying to convey is that the new 200-600mm lens will be at least as good as the GM 100-400mm PLUS (hence in capitals in my previous post) the 1.4X TC in both the optical and AF performance. Again, the bare G lens vs the GM lens PLUS TC. The bare lens is a tad faster AND longer, too and that's quite an advantage even if it doesn't accept any TC. Of course, we both fully realize that there is no way of knowing at this point in time .

Yeah, I get all that, but seeing as we're all, or at least most of us are searching for reach, and most of us, if we can, will use the lens with a tc.
So going apples to apples, both lenses with a tc, I don't think the G lens will match the GM lens for speed or IQ. As long as it doesn't hunt, I'm ok with that.
For me, today's lenses AF so fast that if the new lens was a bit slower, I wouldn't care. It's the other stuff that interests me.
How good is the OSS, MFD, taking a tc, weight, IQ, is it accurate when it hits focus. Those are big things to me.
Tomorrow we'll have more questions than answers. We'll see reviews that will make us scratch our heads.
We'll wonder why did they use those settings while shooting whatever it is that they're shooting.
I hope they try it on other cameras and not just the a9.

When I place my preorder what vendor would you guys recommend. Normally I go adarama or b&h but I’ve seen plenty of guys not get thier preorders on release due to high demand. Any other vendors you guys recommend?

Anywhere but those two places should do. If the lens turns out to be a hot ticket item in short supply those two stores are horrible. There is actually a guy over on DPReview still waiting on an August Nikon 500PF order from one of those two stores...
Although I don't know how Sony distributes new product. With Nikon, smaller stores get equal supply as the big ones so they were a much better bet with people getting the lens in a month or so. Sony may not distribute that way...ie they may flood the big stores with a lot of lenses. Still, I wouldn't go with the big two.

I have had very good luck with both BH & Adorama on perorders and receive the lens the day it is supposed to ship every time.
Now that BH charges tax in IL orders are thru Adorama until they start charging I think Oct 1st.
I for one and really sick of BH closing every time you turn around for some jewish holiday when I want to order something I want it ordered not we will be back on Tuesday which happens way too often. I respect religion but when you in business and as big as BH is to literally shut down for about 1.5 months a year is stupid IMO.
Obviously they put their holidays before profit which I can respect but it is maddening and 100% of the time I order it from Adorama or elsewhere to spite them. I am sure they do not care but it makes me feel better and I like to cross things off my list not have them hanging fire for two to four days.

When I ordered the 24 GM, I tried Adorama. When everyone else had gotten a shipment and were shipping out, all we got was radio silence from them. I canceled and ordered elsewhere and it shipped a day later. No more big two for preorders for me!
I leave July 11 for a birding trip. I doubt I'll be getting this in time. Oh well.
So, everyone should preorder from bandh or adorama so I can order elsewhere and get it early.

I've only seen some sample footage but it seems "Good". Not native-like, but workable. I'm sure as time goes on and more is decoded about the Nikon Z (And canon RF for that matter) mount it will improve. It certainly looks like it works better than I thought it would this early on in the mount's life.
Well that's promising, at least. Still not sure I'd want to attach my lenses to such a skinny adapter but maybe they found a fix for that issue?

If the 200-600 is finally announced today I'll definitely be picking one up. The 600 F4 is well out of my price range sadly.
Would be great if it included the XD Linear Motors found in the 24, 135 and 400 GM lenses or do you think Sony will keep these for the GM line only? I'd imagine image quality will be on par with the 70-300 but perhaps they won't hold back with the af performance.
It's difficult to say looking at the leaked images but it doesn't look like the teleconverters will fit, but I'd love to be proven wrong. Also so far only the GM lenses have supported teleconverters.
Definitely crossing my fingers for an internal zoom lens despite it being obviously longer and taking up more space in my bag.
I'm very interested to see how this will compare with my 100-400 + 1.4x for both image quality and af performance, and this will probably be the deciding factor as to whether I keep my 100-400 or not, along with my bank balance.

Sure did stop being so defensive for crying out loud that is what wrong with people today?
I am very religious and respect all religions but a business is a business. 99% of companies this size are open when you are the size of BH Photo.
The people who run the place can still abide by their holidays but I have to believe they have a fair amount of people on their work force that are not Jewish that could at least man the order boards and process orders.
I have to think they are computerized enough to accept orders and get the process started also.

SAR seems to have gone radio silent about this announcement. No mention of when it is today, no leaked pictures, nothing at all. I guess they don't want to stick their foot in their mouth again

I look at it every day and often there is valuable stuff youtube videos etc.
But this speculating and so many rumors of cameras and lenses being released or having the specs all wrong has really affected their credibility IMO.
It always has been a you never know what Sony or anyone is releasing or when until they do. I would say unless they know what they are talking about to stop posting things that are off base.
At least the SAR 4 & 5 stuff I can understand the posts that are not but SAR 5 has lost its meaning lately.
