Thanks for the comprehensive answer, much appreciated. I too have the ART 105 and am constantly astonished by its output. It displaced effectively my GM 85 and has curved a bit my desire for the ART 135 (although I think I will get that one after all).
Anyway since I do have the ART 105 I was also lately leaning towards the ART 40, to better compliment each other. My path was the opposite of yours and the *problem* is that I got the 35 f/1,2 first. The 105 followed later on and completely blown me away (placing me firmly in the Sigma camp btw). The gap between 35 and 105 is kinda big for my taste and the 40 might be the answer I was looking for. My natural tendency is with the normal-ish FOV, so there's another plus.
To your suggestion, I've tried the Sony FE 50 f/1,4 and didn't love it (liked it, but not enough to keep it). I generally buy and test my lenses for dual purposes, portraits and landscapes. The FE 50 f/1,4 had FC issues which I couldn't get around of (at least the copy I tried). Next I wanted to try the ART 50, but somehow ended up inspecting online the ART 40 instead. The optical perfection of that lens is pulling me strongly and I too think it will better compliment the 105. I don't mind the weight nor the size, these lenses go regularly with me to hikes, I consider it good exercise.
One more thing, can you share the link to the lens collar for the ART 40? And can it be used in portrait and landscape orientation?
Once again thanks for your input, it is greatly appreciated. And your images are stunning, I enjoy following your work. ...Show more →
No problem at all, Stjepan and thank you for your kind words! I bought the lens collar off e*ay and it came from China. It took a while to get it delivered but it did and the finish is more than just decent. Based on the design of the lens, there is a raised portion of the switch, it is not feasible to get it to flip from horizontal to vertical vice versa without jeopardizing the integrity or rigidness of the collar. The collar is more an afterthought and generic design for that lens unlike that of the Sigma 105mm. It still works fine for my purpose though.

I'm exactly in the same position as you are (potentially, for now at least). I'm considering buying the ART 40, to go with the ART 35 f/1,2. ART 40 would be more of a standard lens for me, but can't decide the 5mm difference is visible enough, perspective wise. The bokeh of the 35 will be hard to beat, but if it comes close it will be worth it. The files should be much cleaner with regards to aberrations, as far as I can gather from online resources. This with the flatter perspective would be my reasons to add the lens to the arsenal. Can you persuade me otherwise? ...Show more →
I also remember reading here someone thoughts on switching from Sigma 40 to 35 1.2, mainly because the general sharpness and correction of 40 is superior, but bokeh was harsher in effect ...

Yes, I've seen the reviews and comparison on Phillip's site. Didn't help me at all.
The 35 1.2 really has an outstanding bokeh, the quality is beyond anything available for e-mount. Sharpness is also very good too, stopped down just a bit it is pretty much perfect across the frame (2.8 is sufficient, DOF being the only limiting factor). Now the ART 40 should be even better with less aberrations which - together with a closer to the standard FOV - is what's pulling me toward it. GAS can't be ignored, I'll admit to that. How bad can the bokeh be?

Boseong tea plantation is a great spot to visit if you ever end up in South Korea. Most people there are taking selfies or landscapes of the terraced plantation. However, it also is a fantastic spot to see "Korean couples culture" in action.

Our state parks are open again (requiring face coverings), so we jumped in the car today to get some vitamin D! Also, I’m definitely no model, need to learn how to pose

A few from yesterday. This time I am not using my Canon profile, I used a custom-made one with my Colorchecker and Lumariver, quite basic but trying to keep skintones as accurate as possible (quite difficult with a Sony sensor). White balanced/edited on my iPad using the sidecar function of the laptop. A bit too neutral to my taste, but it's how my friend preferred them. Some might be a bit OOF as well (he thinks he looks better in slightly oof pictures as his face is less sharp xD).
Edit to add myself into the picture, literally, as I used his background for mine (in mine, the background was too crowded). Plus sides stretched to meet IG aspect ratio without cropping... so a bit of a Frankenstein pic, but you see something else than a nickname from me, haha.
