A brief lemonade story. In the midst of session for two pre-teen sisters, I had a weird little idea: reversing their apparent identities. The older one seemed quiet, reflective, kempt, and was, in the “classical” sense, the prettier one. Not obnoxiously vain, but definitely aware of her hair looking good, and her clothes being neat and straight. Seemed kind of a “being / internal” kid.
The younger one was way more energetic, pretty indifferent to her hair and clothing being perfect. Kind of a “doing / external” kid.
My original, stupid, thought from several weeks ago, had been to shoot inside, in natural light from a pretty large set of windows. Yesterday, though was dark, stormy, and rained heavily here. The big windows were useless. Hello, Flexkits. After about an hour of that, the storm gods said something about screw all your stupid ideas, move off-script.
We went outside, and I tried to make the “personality” kid look quietly pretty, and get the quietly pretty one a bit zinged up.
This was literally the last shot of the day, the only one I’ve looked at so far. I guess the import “settled down” at the end of the import. I cropped it and futzed with it slightly, thanked the universe for giving nine-year olds perfect skin, decided I’d likely find a bunch of usable images tomorrow, and fell asleep. Up now, briefly, for the usual reason aged gentlemen are up at 4:30 am. Back to sleep, then back to LRC.
Thank you for the therapy session!
Best to all.

Sabine, in the rain.
