This is the first shot I ever saw that made me seriously consider buying this lens. I only like doing street photography at night and your photos proved to me that there was a lens available for Nikon F mount good enough to shoot wide open at f1.4 and get sharp shots, corner to corner, in dim street light. Thanks for posting your pics in this thread. Just bought one a few days ago. I love this lens.
Very impressive results. If I didn't have the 50 ART and the 28E I would give this lens a hard look. It just won't fit logically into the focal lengths I have, especially when I can crop the 28e in 1.2 mode to approximate a 35. If I didn't love what I can do with the 28e so much I might just have this lens instead of the 50.
Nice shot above! This lens is on for $1000 CAD new right now! Huge discount. I have the sigma 35 and the nikon 50 1.8S so thinking this heavy sigma beast is not a good move and will probably wait for a 35mm 1.2S.
Am I crazy to dismiss this 40mm? Super price for a new lens that many love. I am only recently aware of this lens. I may test drive it anyway but would appreciate hearing the experience of others too. Thanks!
I'm new to using the 40mm, and it's smaller than I anticipated but definitely bigger than a 50mm 18s. I'm liking the lens a lot. The image quality is extremely good. I can tell I will be keeping this lens along with my 105mm 1.4E as permanent F-mount lenses in my Z setup.
I have owned the 50mm 1.2s and I think I prefer the sigma because of the 40mm and both make amazing images. Right now I mostly use the sigma 40mm and the nikon 105mm as my main focal lengths. I have a 24mm and a 70-200mm to cover the other ends.
Even with the FTZ adapter it balances well on my Z9 because of the weight and grip. As long as I use the shutter release button for focusing and taking the picture, I am able to use the z9 and 40mm one handed as needed. The size and weight hasn't been a factor because I mostly use a black rapid strap to shoulder the weight primarily.
Great images, really special lens, and terrific photographers! I like to contribute to the Voigtlander 40 f1.2 thread on the Sony forum, so I came to see how people put up with the weight of this lens. Surprisingly well actually!
40mm is an anti GAS focal length, it’s really worked for me instead of having and deciding between a 35 and 50. While I did start with an old Nikon AI-s 50/1.8, I immediately fell for the 35mm focal length. After not settling on a 35 (in 2018 - now there are great options), I bought the CV 40/1.2 and haven’t looked back. Prime gapping is 24-40-85, could add an 18.
