Hopefully Bastian gets a well-centered copy of the FE Plus so we can have a better idea of how it performs.

That I hope too...

First question: FE plus and Leica version, what is the difference?
First anwer: They both have M-mount, you still need an adapter to use the FE version.

Second question: So what is the difference between those two then?
Second answer: Sony and Leica sensors are different, if the lens is not optimized for the sensor of your camera
image quality will be degraded, especially in the corners.

Thank you that was what I was looking for.

Guy, BastianK posted (previous page) a picture of the bayonet at my request. It shows (poor resolution) “FEPlus” engraved on the bayonet.

On the communication front, yes, it could be improved. I find them OK deal with though. One needs to be a little bit patient.

Thanks Vivek. Patience is not my virtue.

Now trying to decide to cancel or not. I don’t have to be a corner freak on this one but resale will suck.

Yeah sorry can I call BS on that ? As with the old Pentax x1.7 AFA you may need to make a minor MF adjustment until you get ball park with longer FL or heavier lenses ..... after that it nails focus just fine (works beautifully with my all metal Nikon 105/2.5 AiS and 435g). Just don't expect to be able to use it from 1m to infinity without giving it a helping hand.

Genji's point is not that it won't nail focus just fine with heavier lenses, but that (in his considerable experience with multiple TAP adapters) using heavier lenses *eventually* causes the adapter to develop the famous wobble and fail.

Hi Guy,

It may be wise to cancel and to order the one for the Sony FE cameras. That would be my suggestion unless you want the option of using the lens on a Leica and/or other camera brands. It may take a little longer, but you are more likely to get a lens that you can live with even if it is for only a couple of months. It will also be easier to sell on the FM Buy/Sell board.

I have a feeling that the heavier the lens, the faster the wobble will happen but eventually they will all do it because it's a design flaw.

Agree, that’s what I should have said. But the main point was that the issue isnt anything to do with not nailing focus with large lenses.

I wanted it for a trip. If it don’t ship by tomorrow I’ll cancel

Guy, they will accept returns even after a month or two or more. Mine can still go back (ring flare issue) but I am still undecided about a return as it is a well centered and (other than the ring flare) a stellar sample.

Honestly I kind of liked the ring flare issue, but I think I may be very outnumbered in that opinion 😂

I don’t like the ring flare but otherwise it is a perfect sample. Hence my dilemma.

I heard you can just stop down to f1.5 and it's basically gone. If I had ~$500 I would offer to buy your copy, alas I am broke as a joke

I've reached out to 7A for some clarification. FEPlus basically has its elements formula fine-tuned to compensate for the sensor stack thickness in order to achieve optimal performance corner to corner on Sony's CMOS.

Optically though, there's no difference so to speak (material-wise).

But I really love my ring flare (which is gone on any current production, LM or FEPlus)... so I think I'm going to keep mine. Not doing any critical work... so character is more important to me than absolute IQ.

Thanks for reaching out. If I get really nice corners at F8 when I need I’m okay . If it’s pretty darn good at 5.6 I can deal with that too. Looking at images it does look pretty good overall. I’m expecting at 1.4 maybe some contrast veiling flare look. Most lenses with 1.2/1.4 do so if it’s really good at F2 on center it would make my day. So let’s say for sake of argument maybe a stop better in the corners on the Sony version. I kind of like the ring flare for creative reasons myself. As long it goes away half a click

Do you have the one from 7artisans itself?

I ordered mine directly from their ebay store. It has some sort of fleece inside, so it cannot scratch the lens. Mine is fixed by a screw. Of cource you cannot take it off without lossen the screw. I don't know if this lens hood helps against light from the side, but I use it as an extra protection against scratches since the camera is hanging & bumping on my body.

I found their hood not only useless but dangerous!

It scratches the body of the lens while mounting/dismounting!

Highly recommend that it is avoided!

I used 7artisans 50 1.1 (400g) and voigtlander 40 1.2 (315g) for 1 year and it worked nicely. I used 7artisans 28 1.4 (500g) for one week and the wobbling started. Eventually my adapter is worn right now and it is coincidence that the wobbling started with this new 28mm or the 28mm is just too much of weight. It's a shame this design flaw exists since it works nicely with af on a7r3.

Zeiss Loxia 35mm 2.0 vs Zeiss ZM 35mm 2.0 (which should optically be basically the same thing as 28mm Leica vs FE plus) is more like 2.5-3 stops difference than one.

It’s hard to say of course how much worse the corners will be; but I’ve seen careful comparisons of ZM 35 with Loxia35, where the only difference is optimisation, and it’s a 3 stop difference in the periphery. And it could, on a wider lens, be even greater.
