Looking at a Great Blue Heron in breeding plumage; an alligator can be seen in the water to the right and behind the Heron.

A solitary Monarch butterfly. Normally I see many species of butterflies this time of the year in my part of Ontario. However, we had intensive aerial spraying against gipsy moths (according to the municipalities) recently and I am convinced that that has killed many other caterpillars indiscriminately.
We had a visitor in our back yard this morning, so I grabbed the camera and went out to get some photos. I was a bit frustrated that the animal eye detect on my A7R IVa would not work on this guy, but he patiently waited as I went through every setting in the menu I could find, but to no avail... the camera would not detect the eyes until I had his face almost completely filling the frame, at which point it finally locked on.
