Finally had a chance to do some side by side comparison of the a9 vs. rIII with BIF at the Magee Marsh area of Ohio. My impression, FWIW, shows that the AFC/tracking on the rIII is no slouch but the a9 was clearly better at getting sharp eyes. I used "wide" on both camera. Maybe better technique and a smaller AF selection would have helped with the III but I had trouble keeping up with the swallows as it was. The below were all cropped substantially and the shadows and blacks tweaked. No noise reduction.
