Fred, Could you try to trip the shutter with only a TC (no other tube or lens) attached?
When mounting the TC only, it works
When mounting the TC + extension tube, it works.
When mounting the TC + extension tube + lens, I can't trip the shutter....
I tried it with the CV 110, Batis 135 and FE 85/1.4 GM. Not sure what's happening here..
You could tape over the contacts and lose all lens data.

So TC with dumb adapters and lenses would work! A curiosity of mine has been answered!

Well you got me curious so I took an old 16mm vello ext tube and not so gracefully cut out the inside with a jig saw. Needless to say no more contacts with the lens The a7riii works with the TC, Extension tube + Lens (110). Not sure I trust the weight of that lens hanging off the front of my camera but it works

Yes. I just tried my Sony 1.4X Teleconverter with my Novoflex Leica R to NEX adapter and my Leica R 100mm f2.8 Apo-Macro-Elmarit lens. It was relatively close and shot wide open with very little DOF. Seems sharp in the center area where focused and would need to stop down for holding more of the image. Will need to experiment for full field.
Image below taken of my wife Carol's handiwork (she is a seamstress). Image taken with tripod mounted Leica R 100mm f2.8 Apo-Macro-Elmarit lens, Novoflex Leica R to NEX adapter and Sony 1.4X Teleconverter, stock A7r, ISO 100, lens set to f2.8 (I am not sure of the effective aperture due to how close to the subject, but without correction would be f4 with the Teleconverter) and 0.8 sec. Image taken right out of the camera with no post processing except color adjustment to Tungsten. With this set-up should be able to focus to infinity. By the way, the lens can not be used with the Leica R 1.4X Apo extender (without the usage of an extension tube), but I can use it with the Sony 1.4X Teleconverter due to the usage of the dumb Novoflex adapter between the lens and the Teleconverter.

Yes, when taping the extension tube's contacts, the shutter works again. So, it needs to be a dumb tube.
I calculated that the 1.4x TC + 16mm tube + 110/2.5 @ 1:2 macro, provides almost 1:1 macro as the lens bare but with 2 more inches of working distance. (9 inches)
It does not work with the 10mm tube as the TC's protruding glass is too long and needs 16mm for the lens to mount.
I didn't calculate the magnification when using this combo at 1:1 macro but I think would be 1.5:1 or a bit higher mag.
I guess that I just assumed the 125 would be larger, but now read that it’s about 80g lighter, too. Do you know the length at 1:1? The 125 is about 6”.
The 110 also supports 5-axis image stabilization while the 125 is limited to 3-axis.

There is not much size saving with 110mm as 125mm is smaller but you add the adapter to 125mm. Here is comparison shot from Cameraquest:

This thread has been quiet for a while now, but I’m still interested. For those of you that bought the 110 or replaced the 65 CV, any evolved or refined thoughts? Is this a keeper, and how does it fit for you relative to other nearby focal lengths, particularly those with AF?
I’m also keen to read more about the ergonomics and handling. How front heavy is it at 1:2? And at 1:1? Given the weight I’m somewhat surprised it has no tripod mount. Thanks.
It's looking like a keeper for me - and a classic in the making IMO.
I don't have an AF prime between 50mm and 135mm, so that gap remains. While I might pick up an AF lens close to or at 100mm, unless I needed to sell something to pay for it, the CV110 wouldn't be my first choice to let go of.
For now, I’m keeping both the 110 and 65 because they're both so nice, and I haven't been able to shoot much (cold, winter, crap weather) to see if one of them mostly sits on the shelf.
I've also come to realize that, sometimes I really enjoy the experience of shooting with manual lenses.
I currently have a very nice lineup of MF lenses, which is a very ice luxury for me. As long as my budget and space allows, I'm planning to hang on to them.
As my MF kit is fully fueled by Voigtlanders (I own 12,21,40,65) I am certainly looking at the CV110 but I think will hold on for the moment. The 1:2 macro of the 65 is enough for me but real reason is that 65mm FL is surprisingly useful and so much versatile than 110: I use it for landscapes portraits walkaround. I’ve read the CV65 is in reality a 62mm hence my feeling it is very similar to my af ZA 55 framing. Time will tell...
Yea I been reading this whole thread. It certainly would fit me. I’ll wait a little maybe a used one will pop up. I just bought two brand new cars so I gotta recoup a little. Both VW. We are a serious Volkswagen family.
