Haha I was actually there Friday I even took a pic!
I was just surprised they still had some in stock for so long, it's like they had two 600GM for the longest time and ended up selling them to another dealer that had a waiting list.

I just purchased a copy from BandC as well. The guy told me they received 20 copies of it this past Friday and are down to half left.
I’m having a real dilemma. I now have the a7r iii, a7 r iv and the Leica Q2. I own the 24GM and I have my Leica Q2 up for sale in the marketplace. My initial thought was to carry two bodies with the 24GM and 50 1.4 mounted for daily use, but I’m wondering if 24 will be too wide to replace my Q2’s 28mm as a general shooting lens.

Any thoughts?
24GM on A7RIV in crop or crop in post seems a reasonable solution as a q2 28mm replacement. Shoot in FF and pretend you are using a rangefinder and can see outside the image boundaries for Leica like compositions!
Would be nice to have variable user defined crop in these high resolution cameras, plus frame lines you could superimpose in case you don’t want to view crop magnified to cover 100% of LCD or EVF

If you prefer the 28mm FOV, you can always crop the 24mm image. It does not work in reverse.
Having said that, I would also prefer a 28/1.4 GM instead.

Heck yes - I'm only on A7R III and even then it's very reasonable as a 35/1.8 replacement in APS-C crop mode (and see Fred's comparisons if you don't believe me). A minor crop to 28mm equiv A7R4 should look more than fine.
First time using this lens. When looking at which pictures to edit, I felt the urge to crop. But after a while it went away and left them uncropped. If I were to crop I'd probably crop to about a 28mm as well. Anyway, enjoy our late night Gelato run. We bought enough for me to get tired of gelato for the rest of my life.
You will maximize the lens's potential if you learn to get closer to your subjects.
Yeah, 24mm isn't quite for me. I'll be getting a Voigtlander 35mm shortly which I think will fit me better. This may be my favorite 24mm for portraits / people shots though.
sacrilege!!! one can never be tired of gelato or ice cream!!

Because of the whole pandemic situation I've had time to read the entire thread and I must say the info here has been really valuable.
I currently have a Batis 25 which is decentered (I wasn't able to send it back) and I'm thinking about buying the 24 GM as well as the 85 GM.
I want to have a 85/24 pair for pro work. I mainly do fashion photography, but I often shoot outdoor and I also do landscapes/urban. Consequently I also could have my 25 fixed and get the Batis 85 which is cheaper and lighter than the GM.
Do you guys still think the color rendition on the 24 GM is ad good as the Batis or Loxia (assuming they are equal) ?
I'm asking because on much of the comparisons, it always looks like the 24 GM is cooler/magenta while the Batis is warmer and a bit more saturated. Maybe both pictures have different hues and can both be corrected. But it might also be that the higher saturation on the Zeiss means more color information is being captured. What do you think ?
I've been using the Batis for some time and for sure it renders contrast and color very naturally. It's often able to retain subtle blue or red hues in the shadows. I would LOVE to have both Batis 25 and 24 GM but I need to choose.
PS: Someone on eBay is selling a "perfectly centered" Batis 25 in my area right now, so I have this option
would you consider buying a color checker instead? that might lead to better color accuracy once you make a custom profile

I seem to recall that this 24/1.4 GM lens was everyone's favorite a while back but Sony has since released other interesting fast prime lenses like the 20/1.8 or the 35/1.8 - how are people still feeling about this one? Still a favorite tool in the box?
I personally shoot mostly available light portraits, travel, documentary, etc. Not really much landscape, never wildlife or astro. The idea was to have the 24/1.4 as a light-weight two lens combo with the 55/1.8, but I guess the 20 or 35 are options. My thinking was that 24mm and 55mm was sufficiently apart and lenses with good character.
