I am looking for a relative light, high quality allround AF lens on a A7RIII body. Sold my Leica Q2 recently and was very happy with it but my Sony collected dust, I wanted to use a tiltable screen and the ergonomics match better on the A7RIII for me. I guess the 4mm more WA are not that critical vs. the 28mm Summilux, also the GM is a stop faster. Anybody here to report how the switch would work when coming from the Q2? Would eventually the 25mm Batis be a better choice? I love the Zeiss Pop, contrast and colors but the rendering of the GM might be simply better...
Well 4mm is a lot actually.
I have the 28mm sigma, because I really like this focal length. For me it is the widest you can use without distorsion problem in the angles.
I am trying the GM 24 nowadays, and have compared it to the sigma... Renderings are a bit different, but really good in both cases. Sharpness is about equally perfect.
I wanted to use the gm because it is lighter and smaller, but in use, I found the 4mm difference to be a lot, especially when shooting people....
I have used the batis, but if the colors and contrast are good, the rendering and bokeh are definitely not to my taste. Fred has compared it to the loxia 25, definitely not the same rendering and the loxia is much more interesting. So is the GM in my opinion.
But if weight is not a problem and if you like the 28mm fl, I would suggest trying the sigma. It is definitely in the same league than the GM, but a bit bigger!!
I had the original Leica Q. It's not really a direct comparison. The Q might not be that much smaller but it does feel that way. It is much more compact that an A7 +24mm combo. So if light and small to carry everywhere is the thing, then the Q is a very good option. The image quality of both options is amazing. Nothing to complain about for both.
A few from Bodega Head from Monday. Weather was flirting with rain all day but held off. This led to some fairly dramatic cloud patterns and some really vivid colors in the sea. The 24 is just spectacular. The resolving power is easily a match for the a7R3.
Every time I pick this thing back up I am so impressed. First outing on the a1.... did not need as many photos as I took with it, need to remember to switch it down off of h+ when not in bird mode :-)
