My very first sighting and hearing of a Loon was in Maine, Acadia National Park. Went strolling through a pine tree trail back to a pond (maybe Jordan pond?) and my wife and I heard a Loon then one passed from behind a large boulder out in the pond, that memory has stayed with me now for about 35 years so far

These give me goosebumps, brings back a great memory, thanks for sharing, great images

Hi Robert...

As one who has never seen nor heard a loon, I can only imagine the experience you had during that encounter. Your photographs (especially #3) have allowed me a little vicarious serenity.

Thanks
Tom

These are beautiful images! Excellent composition and technically perfect. The only suggestion I can offer is that they may be a bit tight on the crop, in particular vertically for a couple of them. Regardless they are superb. The third one is my favorite, you captured a beautiful interaction.

These are gorgeous.... Common loos are so photogenic in breeding plumage and you captured them well here. #2 #3 are just awesome. TFS

Thank you.

This happens often during feeding sessions. And yes, it reveals to us the intimate bond between parent and chick.

After the adult passes a fish to its chick, the young bird often nuzzles and pokes or prods the adult, apparently attempting to get more food. The adults are infinitely patient, as they constantly swing their heads to each side of the coaxing chick, in order to get past the chick, to dive again and continue the process of capturing and presenting food to its young.
