My very first sighting and hearing of a Loon was in Maine, Acadia National Park. Went strolling through a pine tree trail back to a pond (maybe Jordan pond?) and my wife and I heard a Loon then one passed from behind a large boulder out in the pond, that memory has stayed with me now for about 35 years so far
These give me goosebumps, brings back a great memory, thanks for sharing, great images
Karl
Thanks you Karl, and well-said. That is just about how I feel about loons. Their physical appearance, behavior and voices, have endeared them to all of us who've experienced them.
As one who has never seen nor heard a loon, I can only imagine the experience you had during that encounter. Your photographs (especially #3) have allowed me a little vicarious serenity.
Thanks
Tom
Hi Tom and thanks much. I hope you are able to experience them.

Excellent shots, Robert! 1st one is stunning
Amit
Thank you Amit. I love it when they display too. He is telling me that this is his territory. Immediately afterwards, he settles down and resumes feeding the chicks.

These are beautiful images! Excellent composition and technically perfect. The only suggestion I can offer is that they may be a bit tight on the crop, in particular vertically for a couple of them. Regardless they are superb. The third one is my favorite, you captured a beautiful interaction.
Dave
Thank you much Dave, and I will keep that in mind when I post process next.

These are gorgeous.... Common loos are so photogenic in breeding plumage and you captured them well here. #2 #3 are just awesome. TFS

Thank you Faizan.
Right now, the adults have all but lost their breeding plumage. This begins happening about mid-September. I will probably post more images soon, and try to remember to include some that show that.

Thank you Geoff.
I want to comment now, on the beautiful, low-angle shots you just posted. Super images!
I seem to favor using the DR-5 right angle finder on my D850 or D500 Geoff. Maybe I should give the live view a better try again, than I have in the past.
