Ok you just posted these on Dpreview. I suspect you uploaded the same files to each forum? Honestly when I first saw them on Dpreview I thought they looked awful, even the expanded version. Here on FM, the color, depth and detail are more of what I'm coming to expect from the Z7.
I don't know what they are doing to the compression on Dpreview, but it certainly isn't doing any justice to posted images!
If you hit playback button do you hear a click type noise? Like something switching off/on inside the camera. I get it no matter the EVF/LCD setting
If so does anyone know what that is?
Yep, just posted about this on dpreview. It'll believe it's Nikon's IBIS locking mechanism engaging when you enter playback mode and then disengaging when you return to shooting mode. I don't know why Nikon is choosing to lock the IBIS down when entering playback. You won't hear it when IBIS is disabled.
Btw Sony doesn't have a locking mechanism for their IBIS. When you disable IBIS on their cameras it has to actively suspend the sensor in locked position.
We have a yearly event here in Sydney called, "Sculptures By The Sea" which runs for about 3 weeks on Sydney's beaches from Bondi south to Bronte. A stunning backdrop for some local and international artists to show off their work and attract tourists.
I do think that we need a 1/12,000 sec shutter speed as the Z7 with the 105 f1.4 @ f1.4 over exposes by half a stop in our bright sunshine even at ISO64!
I got sidetracked by a local having her photo taken. This is a 100% crop as it was taken from way above her. This was one of the ones that was "over exposed" . I really did run out of shutter speed, but luckily the highlights were not blown and it was recovered ok.
All the shots are fantastic, as usual from you Lance, but I would like to point to 24-70mm F4S lens.
Either you picked a very sharp copy, or that particular lens is a stellar.
I would like to ask you for a favorite, to shot to the sun or any other source of light, at F16 or so, to see how the the sun-stars look like, please.
Some lenses are pretty good even at F11, like 20mm F1.8G.
Thank you!

Question for people that used Z7 together with D850. Would anyone sell their D850 and just keep Z7?
Why? Why not?
Definitely not. I see Z7 as able to replace D850 in my daily use quite well but for wild life, action, birds etc, I don't think it is there yet. I also use D850 for underwater photography. Although housing for Z7 will be available soon, I still have some doubt about low light low contrast AF situation which is very important for underwater photography. Also, I am not sure how Z7 would work out with night dive. EVF could be beneficial but AF is the big question. Smaller and lighter housing certainly will make it easier to travel with.
However, I plan to use Z7 together with D850 when I need 2 bodies and if I plan to use Nikon only for that particular setting.
There's some (not all) truly great images posted here. Although I still haven't made a decision as to whether to invest in a Z camera (I'm currently still shooting with a D800), I have no doubts from these images that the Z7, in spite of a few faults, is a remarkable tool capable of amazing things.

Thank you very much for your kind comments, @cvrle59. Much appreciated!
I am not so sure my copy of the 24-70 f4s is sharper than any other copy, as far as I can ascertain, they are a fantastically sharp lens going on the reviews and test photos I have seen. It is a *stunning* lens considering it's price, no real need for a prime other than when you want wider than f4. A superb travel lens as it is light and has superb IQ.
I'm not so sure I want to shoot into the sun! Having never done this before, how would this be best set up? What will the end result be? Examples? Is a normal light ok?

As far as I can tell, part of the clicking sound is the aperture opening up ready for shooting. Have a look through the end of the lens when you activate it from sleep and you'll see the click coincides with the aperture of the lens opening up ready for shooting.

I have both and am keeping the D850 for action and BIF. Other than for these two duties, the Z7 does the rest of my image taking.
That's exactly what got me thinking - I don't shoot action much and don't shoot wildlife/BIF. I mainly focus on people, landscapes, events and travel. Currently D850 + 14-24, 24-70, 70-200 and 28/58/105.
Either:
a.) sell D850 / 24-70 and get Z7 / 24-70 / FTZ
b.) keep D850, sell 24-70 (that I barely use since the primes are so much better) and pre-order Z6 / 24-70 / FTZ.
It would be nice to have a slightly smaller setup for travel especially. We're truly lucky to have so much choice. I tried Z7 with 24-70 in store today and if feels really solid.

I can certainly understand your concern for shooting into the sun, I've done it before with Fuji cameras, but I always kept on back of my mind, what may happen to the sensor.
Any night street light is good enough...thanks.
I understand from everything I have read that the Nikon autofocus lenses work well or really well with the Z7. What about the Zeiss Milvus lenses? I own the 35mm and the 85mm 1.4 and would love to hear from you with real world experience. Thank you so much!
