Michael, those are some beautiful shots! You will love the 300 PF. It also works very well with the 1.4x.
I've been stalking this thread while contemplating a Z7 as a second body for M lenses (and filming w Nikon zooms). I found the A7riii was great with my 50 and 90, good except the edges for the 35 FLE, but unusable with the 18 (and great with their 24-105). It looks like the Z is a bit better. I really hope Leica hurrys up and puts body stabilization and 50mp in the next M!
Thank you Sir. I have high hope for that 300mm. It will be a handsome combo for a casual bird shooter like me. My son is starting really into bird, he read a lot of book and watch many video about bird in past few months. This pushes me over the edge. I will see how I like it.
I have a feeling SL2 will be your best bet than future M. For rangefinder with long or fast glass, 24M might approach the limit for its focus system can handle. I personally also wish 36+M body, I also like the M the most in field for landscape shooting (though I do need zoom and weather sealing for many situation.) It is so easy and reliable shooting at f8~f11 with rangefinder, you never worry missing focus happen.
Z7 might have a stop or two better than Alpha for difficult rangefinder lenses, however, I don’t think they are as good as M for sure. It is good enough for me as duel user but I will not pay Leica price for using on Z7 for those wider glasses.

To use all my MF Nikkors, I've always wanted a mirrorless camera with a 36mmx24mm Sensor. I bought a Sony A7 as soon as it was available, and I've been using it ever since. Now, finally, it's time to sell it - I never liked it, I never really felt comfortable with it, it's always been more of a hassle, no love. I got the Z7 now. Images taken with the Z7 and my Nikkors would not qualify for this thread/forum. But then, the Sony A7 still had a positive effect: I've bought some third party lenses that would not have worked on an F-Mount Nikon at all, but now, still can be used on a Nikon camera.
I'm wondering, by the way, why there is so much going on in the Voigtlander 40/1.2 and 50/1.2 threads, while nobody seems to have the wider 35/1.2. Is it so bad? Well, I'm just starting to get used to the combo... First steps.
The combo: Nikon Z7, Novoflex Leica M -> Nikon Z, Voigtländer Nokton II 35mm 1:1.2

Congratulation for Z7 and welcome to the thread.
I agree with you about Sony. The latest version may improve many things upon previous generation. Just I didn’t give myself or Sony another chance. They are definitely offering better VALUE at current price point compare to similar spec-ed Z. I can see they have many things done better than Z7 such as AFC and native glass selection…. Just not on my priority list. A few things Z7 did great are really important for me though.
If there is no Sony, I may never see anything like Z7 and 24-70S from Nikon. Sony definitely did lots of great thing for industry.
I had the 35mm f1.2 first version as well. That lens never gets enough love from Leica crowd due to its size and weight. However, I agree with you it deserves a lot better attention than it has now. It offers very smooth and neutral bokeh. It doesn’t have 40mm f1.2’s sharpness at both center and corner but it offers good enough resolution at f1.2. I think I might slightly prefer its bokeh than 40mm f1.2 general speaking. 40mm can have rich painting bokeh but also can have ugly busyness under many conditions.
35mmf1.2 will be a really good fit for Z7 handling and image wise. Your fine images just showed that

Are you finding you can focus quickly and accurately with this lens on the Z7? Or do you need to use magnification.
It is good enough for me under most condition for family images. It is better than other camera I used actually (include OVF ones). However, I agree with Mathieu that to maximize the 45M performance for critical images, you want use magnification.

However, it would be nice if one could exit magnification with a half press of the shutter button, rather than an assigned button toggle (I'm trying the movie button, it's near the shutter ; - ). Then again, I'm still working through the button options.
Totally agree, I consider this is a bug actually. Sony did this right.
