Very nice IF shot!
I'm out now with the lens and wondering if there's any way to make the R3 remember that it was in crop mode? It doesn't remember when I turn it off (acceptable) but when it goes to sleep it also goes out o crop mode. And it seems I can't assign crop mode to one of the custom settings on the top wheel

Been shooting surfing yesterday and today with the 100-400 GM. What a beauty! Definitely a keeper this one.
Here's a few shots from today on the R3. I find it that for surfing it works best using the Expandable Flexible Spot. I started out with the Zone focus but it was grabbing the face of the wave more often than not, which would render the surfer slightly out of focus.
These are all Fine JPG out of camera. Did not shoot RAW at all. Some will be in 18MP APS-C mode.

some amazing images .. I was at a chainsaw carving event with my 24-105 today and wished I had a little more reach .. Renting this lens and the 1.4 for a few days to try it .. would make for a good AF zoom kit covering 24 to 560.
any minimal bag suggestions for this setup and my A7R2 i.e. camera with one lens on, other lens stored, CPL, spare batteries, memory cards ?

my rental just arrived. initial impressions are lighter then expected but when zooming out, unbalanced due to extension of optics. Hand-held sharpness at 560mm (max plus 1.4x) is great. short day driving to Logan Pass tomorrow but there is a winter advisory with 50% chance of snow so it will be an interesting day.

Good luck. Glacier NP can have early snows and it can be unpredictable. The Park closes pretty early in the season.

I'm headed to New Zealand in a couple of hours and have the impression this will be my most used lens during my 10 days there. Any good tips on where to go on the north island? I know there's not much wildlife, but still, there's some...

Wow all amazing photos.. I owned and recently sold my 100-400. Found myself never wanting to travel with it. I also own the 70-200 f4 and used that mainly for travel/landscapes because of size.
I really wanted to keep the 100-400 but hard for me to have that much invested sitting at home.
I still have my new 1.4 tc if anyone is interested?
