This lens is fun to carry around and use. I'm trying to find out what's the maximum distance/crop I can get away with.
I think 500 PF+TC-14E III do a better job than 500/4G +TC-14E II (now sold) for static shots. I remember putting down the TC every time I come back from a shoot because the images were not sharp. But I was shooting mostly action with that combo. So it's hard to say. Anyway I'm happy with the consistency of the 1.4X TC with this lens.
