Have to add this one to the thread. Had two shots at this bird, this was one. Never would have got this except for the ability to hand hold and move this lens around quickly.
How is it that a dealer as big as B&H has no idea when shipments of Nikon lenses are due from
Japan ? It would be like the local BMW dealer saying” we have no idea where your car is or when it will be here”
Doesn’t make sense. And it’s starting to piss me off.
You can chime in Henry Posner....at any time.

It is why for lenses/camera bodies I really want and at/by a certain date I don't use B&H or Adorama anymore.
For things I'm in no hurry they are fine.
The last couple of transactions I have used BestBuy. Each time they stated your lens will arrive by such n such date; low and behold they were there by that date or earlier.
I don't think any dealers know exactly when they'll get their next shipment. I talked to 3 different dealers toward the end of September while waiting for mine and all three of them said they expected another shipment in October but had no idea when in October. Nikon seems to be intentionally vague about when they'll have more available. B&H can only give info they have available to them.

Here are a few from the weekend following a cold snap here in Minnesota. Most of the deer I photographed on this day were too close for the 500PF. Because I have not shot it that much yet, and I am curious about its cold weather performance, I used the lens even when my 70-200 or 300mm lens might have been more appropriate.
Anyway, here are two shots.

Yes, B&H is not sure about the next lens distribution. Unfortunately, the others are in the same situation.
Yes, the car dealers are in a better position, apparently.
I watch Nikon news on all possible sites...no word. Maybe someone here can ask nikon.
I still hope but dusted off the old lenses.
Just as an FYI I have a friend in NY who got the 500 PF yesterday. She placed the order with 6th Avenue Electronics where she gets all of her gear from a couple of weeks back. Came pretty quickly and she is super excited. I got to play with it today and the lens in remarkably light and easy to hold. Almost feels like a toy compared to a 600 f4. Good luck for all those who are still waiting.
Very nice shot. I like the background. Is it still fall?

Here at home I get 60-65 days a year full on Sun. This was shot on one of those. I actually prefer overcast for bird shots but it was my day off.
Nikon D500
500.0 mm f/5.6
ƒ/8.0 500.0 mm 1/2500 1000
Jemini thanks.
Officially it is fall eh, true winter begins Dec. 21, but if outside today you'd think winter with bits of snow in the air, rain much wind. 80 percent of leaves in my area are on the ground. Leaves creating the bokeh behind the Red-bellied are Dogwood. They blew off yesterday.

Ok. It’s time to vent. Received this email from B&H this afternoon, telling me the delivery date of 11/15 is not going to happen and that they have no idea when my lens will be shipped. Now....while I normally would not be inclined to blame B&H for Nikon’s total disregard for their customers I will totally hold them responsible for wasting 5 weeks of my time, during which I could have made other arrangements. They initially told me that October 15 was my delivery date but two days before that, they told me it was a mistake and made no attempt to compensate me for that screw up. At that point I could have ordered somewhere else and would have have the lens by now. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that Nikon markets this lens as the next greatest thing then turns around and decides that that will not tell their dealers when or where they will ship it. How does the company that markets, manufactures and ships lenses, not know when it will both manufacture and ship its own products. It’s outrageous. Their total disregard for it’s customers is even more egregious.
I just ordered the lens from Mike’s Camera in Boulder, and while that’s no guarantee that I will get the lens any sooner, at least I felt they they were honest while dealing with me. If there was any way I dump Nikon, I would. I absolutely hate dealing with anyone that I know doesn’t give a shit about their customers.
Agreed. Same story here. I still didn't deal with Mike's though as my latest email from B&H said 11/15...w/o confirmed eta.(!) I ordered in August and have spent some money at BH,already.
Indeed the guy at Mike's was the most honestly speaking. But no guarantees.

Ridiculous. :'(
When did you get your last email from B&H
If B&H comes through ( which I doubt, considering my last email) I can always cancel my order with Mikes.
Cry me a river....Canada has still only seen 2 copies of the lens for the entire country....IMO these lenses should be distributed based on pure land mass and not based on population or any silly metric like that
I wouldn’t waste my time ordering a high demand item from any of the well known outlets as the wait is months on end, as some of the above posts clearly demonstrate. What I have done is to select one or two smaller outlets, and establish a working relationship with the proprietor, manager or principal salesperson. I might have to wait awhile (if I don’t order upfront) but I know fulfillment will be forthcoming within a reasonable timeframe.
