A couple of more from yesterday at the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge. There were plenty of the Texas state bird swarming, luckily I was able to get some Off on me before they found me. They certainly found my vehicle and I think I lost a quart of oil and wiper fluid
I dropped my keys here, help me find it, it's around here!
Great shots Lance. Have you noticed any drop in hit rate due to supposed VR issues in the 1/250 SS range you shot the Spoonie at? Obviously the posted shots are tack sharp but did you notice a lower % of sharp shots in those lower SSs?

Thanks for your very kind comments, Geoff. Much appreciated.
I didn't notice any sharpness issues in any of the 100 or so I shot of the bird in this set, other than the occasional bird movement.
These looks great, Lance! I have couple of questions for you:
1. Are you happy with its out of focus (background) rendition? Do you think it is a bit harsh (not referring to these pictures you posted, but in general) compared to a 500f4 at f/5.6?
2. For someone owning a Nikon 600mmf4VRG and 200-500mm (and 80-400mm vr2), which lens would you recommend as a third lens - 500pf or 300mm pf?

Thank you very much, protikh. Much appreciated.
1) I am *very* happy with the bokeh and OOF rendering, it is excellent considering it is PF lens. This lens has pro grade results written all over it. I think it is an amazing lens, a real marvel.
2) if you own those lenses, only you can decide which is best for your purposes. What are your priorities? Do you want a small lightweight long lens? Or do you need a small lightweight mid tele lens to complement your 600? Too many variables in what people require.
