I saw a Towhee yesterday! Not imageable but I did see one!
Maybe he'll come back. Love yours Geoff.
Thanks. I assume your Towhees are of the Eastern type. Out here we have the Spotted Towhee. If it makes you feel any better I have never seen nor photographed an Eastern Towhee Good luck catching him!!
Here are a few more from shooting in the snow yesterday (cross-posted last night in the Z thread). Nothing like some snow in a non-snowy region to get the birds out of the woodwork!!

Yep saw him again, fleeting little bastard he is. One second viewing then gone like the wind! That and a Nuthatch are challenges these days.

Many thanks for all of the replies. I'm still not sure if I want to go the F/5.6 direction... or the variable aperture direction with the 150-500/600 zooms. I tried the Nikon 200-500 but end the end I sent it back thinking it was the lens and it turned out to be the camera. I need to give it another try. Then...you have the 500mm F/4's but they are big and heavy. 1st world problems I'll figure this out at some point. The 500PF looks very attractive when you consider the size/weight/performance of the lens.
Thanks again,
Hatch
I have the same problem..including a purchase of a 200-500 that I later sold. It seemed to want too much light to produce sharp images. I need something that is light enough to travel with and hand hold. I have a hard time giving up the sharpness of the 300mm f2.8 and the 600mm f4 for smaller birds in forests. What to do? I hope you will share more of your thought process. I am currently thinking the 500 PF is the way to go.
Absolutely fantastic light in the female Pintail image. One of the most beautiful I have seen. That Z50 is a bargain IQ wise...
Although I suspect the 500PF will have its share also, and of course your skill.
