At 18mm and probably 15/16mm it’s already a f/5.6 lens wide open, so we can’t expect miracles. If it does great at f/8, it would mean it’s a high performance lens.

If it is stellar only at f/8 it should not be expansive. I would like it to be great and maybe a bit expansive.

They give some of the lenses away to test for half a day during photokina. Would be great if someone knowladgeable (Phillip Reeve ?) could get one and share his impressions.

I think Bastian (from PhillipReeve) will be able to do this. Phillip may be there too. Sadly, I'm in Australia so won't be able to join the rest of the team...
Not many samples, only one really that I could see (other than product shots)
Looked fine but it was at f22 so diffraction would be the domninant determinant of IQ so really can't tell much...

Fine. So I wait for your thumbs up before I order the lens.

I love the concept of lens. Maybe a forward thinking company like laowa can finally give us a 21-60mm or something between the 24-70 16-35mm classics

There's something to be said about the fact that Laowa took actual advice from Fredmiranda users. From how I understand it, sunstars weren't going to be a priority until FM users started speaking up. Even if the lens doesn't perform as sharply as what we hope, I'm thankful that Laowa is forward thinking and trying to tap into features and focal ranges that appeal to us gearheads, going as far as actually changing lens design for us.

Doesn't look particularly sharp (at least to me). I guess if you like sunstars, it might be the ticket.
That's a zoom that could replace 3 primes for some shooters (10mm, 15mm and 18mm). I don't own the 10mm or 18mm but will test it against my CV 12 and Lox 21 lenses. It could be comparable to the former but I doubt it will touch the IQ of the latter.
I may try to test against the FE 12-24 as well.

Fred, I'm very much looking forward to your review in a few days. It would be very helpful to me (and I suspect many others) if you can do a comparison with the Laowa 15/2. If at F8 it is not at least as good as that lens, it will be of little interest to me.
