My 65/2 looks ungainly fully extended, but I rarely use it at MFD, so it doesn't get that long.
The 110/2.5, being a macro, will undoubted inherit the very sensitive focusing at infinity, but 100% live view on the A7RIII handles that well - wouldn't want to try that on a DSLR using the OVF.

Have you ever used an extending macro?
The extension only happens when you shoot very close subjects, otherwise from 1m to infinity, it's practically retracted. I like that better than always extended (typical macro style).
The one concern I have with the extension here is what the working distance will be.
A typical internal focus macro loses focal length at mfd, thus decreasing working distance, but on the other hand is short physically thus increasing it.
On this lens the effective FL will be about 90 at close focus which is longer than the 70 or so of the Sony 90. But it’s also much longer (the cv) physically at close focus. So possible it will have a noticeably shorter working distance. Given the excellence of the Sony in the macro range (and th fact that its FBW focus in macro is good enough to be useful if not as much fun as a real helicoid) the working distance could be what d ciders me between them. I will try not to be moved by what a lovely object the CV will be on the on hand, or the hassle of selling the Sony to switch on the other...

I don’t think the 110 macro will be too sensitive at infinity! It has a double helicoid and at least 500 degrees of throw so there is plenty left in the non macro range...

I don't even use the hood with the CV 65/2 since the front element is way recessed.
It does not seem to be the case with the 110/2.5.
I tend to find shorter hoods on my lenses. On my 135L the 35L hood works great and does everything I need.

Thanks Fred. That would definitely make it more manageable. Nothing like being able to test it yourself or have it side by side with other familiar lenses.

CameraQuest (Voigtlander USA Distributor) informed me there is no official price or availability info yet.
As far as I know, the weight was not yet released but I speculate it will be between 650-725 grams.

That hood is really big.
It doesn't look big enough (circumference) to reverse onto the lens for storage. That makes me disinclined to take it along.

Wow was not expecting that, very awesome! The 110mm will be a hit for sure. The 21mm hopefully is great as well (but why not the 21mm 1.8?), it looks a little odd and has some stiff competition from the Loxia, who knows what the price will be though. And a 50mm 1.2, wonder how it will compare to their 50mm 1.1 I'm 100‰ getting this 21- not at all interested in the Loxia due to size and price and preference for MF. I'd love faster, but the size is perfect, so I'll manage

It might need to be. The front element is really close to the front of the lens, unlike the 65 where it is so recessed there's basically a built in hood.

No, I have never used a 1:1 macro that extends like this. I have used the 90G a lot at 1:1 though.
If this 110mm won't extend much unless when close to the 1:1 mark, then I could probably live with it. How would it look at 1:2?
Here's a way of thinking about it.
Its extends as much as any other lens!
So just extend your non-internal focussing 100 mm lens to the distances and see how far it extends (not that far really) and it will be about the same. Serious extension begins when you get closer than "usual" close focusing for this sort of lens.

Macro lenses that extend are sometimes (often?) shorter than their internal focusing non-extending cousins when focus is set to the infinity mark. This means that they are smaller in your photo bag, which is advantageous when you take the lens with you hiking. On the other hand, an internal focus non-extending lens may be easier to weather proof.
For normal use as a short tele lens at non-macro distances, an extending tele macro will extend only slightly, up to maybe about 1.5cm, just like other short tele lenses. I agree with @DavidBM, nothing to worry about.
Not too many years ago, most, if not all, macro lenses were the extending type.

Cosina just needs to develop 28mm and 35mm Ultron E-mount designs now. Perhaps a long one like their 180/4 APO.
Their 28 mm SLII is an excellent design. Would love to see an updated version in E mount.

It's an interesting path taken by Voigtlander in going with 40, 65 and now 110. Not only are they putting out quality lenses but they are distinguishing themselves with different focal lengths giving photographers a tool that is a bit different. Using 'different' brings out creativity.
I'm looking forward to seeing images from the 110 but I predict it will be hard to resist.

CV 78x99
Sony 79x130
It appears that extended CV will be much more longer than 90. Un-extended there is only 3 cm difference and from pictures it seems like CV will almost double ?? the length extended.
CV should be 180mm at least.

The MFD at 1:1 is given, so thats a known.
