The lens frontfocuses slightly, with eyeAf, face AF, or normal AF. No matter the af mode, it fails in AFC, AFS, AFA, DMF... except at 28mm. At 28 mm it works flawlessly, and AF works as it should, in every AF mode.
I write those lines because I discovered that if you use FOCUS MAGNIFICATION, as described here:
http://helpguide.sony.net/ilc/1710/v1/en/contents/TP0001662004.html?search=focus%20magnification
the lens nails the focus, and the difference is huge.
It works in af-s or AF-A. You can focus normally, then press focus magnification and check that your focus point is missed. Then, with the cross in the middle of the screen, press again your AF button, then the lens will focus properly.

Yup me too... it front focuses (heavily) in all modes (AFC, AFS, DFM, eyeAF and no eyeAF, face AF and no face AF, etc).. both stills mode and video mode is bad. But, unlike yours, 28mm is also bad on mine.
Focus Magnification is one of my favorite features; so, I have a Custom button already set for it. But, unlike yours/others, using Focus Magnification, it still heavily front focuses and does Not fix the issue at all.
A quick "Off & On" fixes it; but it usually takes me 2-5 "Off&Ons" of the switch until it starts focusing properly (ie: I have to repeat it, because the first "Off & On" usually doesn't fix it). It's pretty sad I have to do that to get it to focus. Takes forever.
I received it June 1, and the store said I have until July 1 to make a decision. It is Definitely going back for a refund if it isn't fixed by then (definitely not worth $800 for ANY lens that can't even focus).
I'm losing a lot of faith in Tamron and I'll probably never get a Tamron lens again if that happens. Pretty disappointing.
If I have to return it, I'll just get a Sony 50/1.8 again or the Zony 55/1.8, to cover the tight end (I rarely use tight lenses anyways.. I'm mostly at wide end). For a WA, I'm already planning to get the new Samyang 24/2.8 to cover the wide end. I should be happy with that compact 2-lens travel kit... that actually focuses correctly, lol.
