I pre-ordered from Buydig when the German review was introduced. With their record on the A7iii shipping - I'm not sure I will get mine on the 1st wave. We will see.

I’m with C_n, this is great news. It validates their product and if anything we’ll see other offerings in this vein as soon as they can get them to market.
I had an early pre-order but like a couple others I cancelled, not because of the samples, but because it’s really not a need and was evaluating priorities. Happy to let someone else jump up in line and look forward to seeing real work on here from it.

I consider that great news. Maybe that will give them incentive to pump out a 70-200 that doesn’t require a kidney loss to purchase
I'm adapting the tamron 70-200 f2.8 VC, picked up for 500.... would like native, dont like to pay a hefty price for it, as I dont love shooting 70-200's but acknowledge its utility.

I've said it before, this lens shows they'll buck the traditional focal lengths, I'd like to see a 75-150/2.8 that's a good bit smaller than 70-200's are.

Common misconception and often perpetuated by photography forums that you can't do people photography except Street on the 35mm.
It works well for portraits and environmental portraits. Of course it is not flattering for faces of women especially but I have and many others have used it and the focal length works well!

Charlie, I'm not trying to be argumentative, just playing devil's advocate.
I use the 55/1.8 and 85/1.8 on my A7Riii, but use the RX1Rii for my 35.
I think the 35/2.8 is well liked for landscapes, but not so much for portraits or other people pix, whereas the 55 and 85 are really nice for portraits.
Although not as compact as the 35, the 55 on the A7 series bodies is relatively compact. If I want an easy to carry kit, the A7 series plus 55 works.
And again, if you're going to get one lens in addition to the 2.8 zoom, get a lens that can do something the zoom can't - like open up to F 1.8.

I also put in a pre-booking locally the next day after it became available for pre-orders. Hoping to get it on 24th. I've not had any native mid-range zoom for e-mount yet, could be nice for travel and convenience.
I'm also interested in a potential fast tele in reasonable price range, either 70-200/2.8 or something in that ballpark, hopefully not too big and heavy but I'd like it to have reach to 200mm (e.g. a 100-200mm would work).

True, but they've traditionally offered a 28-75. It's almost a signature.
I'd love to see them put out a small, light, high-quality 100-300 f/4 or even f/3.5-f/4.5 or the like.

Not talking about IQ, but I cannot sale my 24-70 GM for this since wide end at 28mm is a deal breaker to me. I cannot bring one lens only for travel that starts at 28. I probably get 24-105 for traveling as single lens/camera solution.
I don't know.. I expect a 28-75 and, say, a Batis 18 or 25, or even the Tokina 20mm f/2 will give you that extra wide-angle perspective (albeit in a second lens) that weighs the same or less, in total, than the 24-70 GM. To me, from a cost, flexibility, and weight perspective, it's a no brainer (and the reason why I stopped buying 24-70 zoom lenses).

Not a lens that fits my needs, but I'm really glad to hear it is in such high demand so we'll get the 3rd party guys making more E-mount specific lenses.

I'd like that as well. As other have noted I'm no fan of 70-200 but recognize it's considerable utility on certain situations.
But given how complex AF design/implementation in Sony GM 70-200 and GM100-400 is (2 focus groups with 3 AF motors, 2 linear and 1 SSM) I think they may be more tempted to do shorter focal lengths that can be implemented with single AF group/motor and where they can still have considerable price advantage.

I’d be ok with a 50-150 2.8 if one focus motor keeps down cost.
I don't really understand peoples desire for short range telephotos that end at 150? They are far to short for event work and not wide enough, and for portrait work they are a weird middle ground where your would get more use out of primes.
A 50-150 is a weird overlap for the 28-75. I'm betting on a modern 80-200.
