Definitely improves the autofocus capability and speed in low light. I took it into darker environment where autofocus failed 100% of time. The light came on and it grabbed focus as fast as it does in good light. Of course, this was a low light situation. Didn’t check to see if it helped in low contrast situations.

Ugh. Glad I have one Windows machine.
I got hold of an old notebook with Windows 7 and I was able to upgrade the FW. Although i care less about the AF assist beam, it is neat to have/use it and to see that feature work. My main goal for the upgrade is to get a more consistent exposure at wide apertures and I will be evaluating that soon. I hope it works as specified .

My X1T was working fine with the A7RII but I tried using the A9 on it and the white balance is off so now I'm forced to upgrade firmware. When the firmware update first came out, I got an error that a Windows-signed driver is required. Apparently this is a security feature on 64-bit Windows.
I recently tried it on another 64-bit Windows machine and got the same error. It refused to allow the installation of an unsigned driver.
Has anyone else gotten this error and would you advise disabling secure boot to allow the driver installation? Honestly, this seems quite sketchy to me. Or does everyone have old 32 bit laptops lying around that didn't block the install? I'm thinking about buying a $50 laptop off of ebay just for godox firmware updates, which seems a bit crazy, but I'm a little uncomfortable bypassing a security feature.

if you downloaded the update from the official godox site, i wouldn't worry about it... you can also upload the firmware update file to virustotal.com, where it'll get scanned by a bunch of malware checkers.

Custom Function 10 set to 1 enables this.
Perhaps this broke again with the very latest firmware combined with the A7R III? I updated my Flashpoint R2 TTL (X1T-S) to the latest version and when changing the custom function 10 to "01", it does not engage the Trigger illuminator. When I change it to "00", the camera AF assist comes on...
I'm using a native lens in AF-S mode and can't figure out how to make this work. Any suggestions?
BTW: It's possible to update the firmware on a Mac using the VMware app. It was very easy.

Does the XPro-S also AF light?
Yes, but being a new product with current firmware, AF assist doesn’t work for Sony at the moment.
I have the Flashpoint rebrand version of the Xpro-S (R2 Pro-S) and there has not yet been a firmware update released since I received it a month ago. Hopefully they’ll also sort out the Sony TTL metering issues in the next firmware, but I’m not holding my breath.

I'm really surprised they haven't already updated all of their other Sony units to support this. Especially the v860iis

Just to be clear -
Latest firmware for the:
X1Ts transmitter/trigger is 16 (turn off, hold Mode, turn on)
X1Rs receiver is 05 (turn off, hold Gr, turn on)
There is a focus assist switch on the X1Ts but I can't get it to work (I have Auto set in A7R3 camera menu for focus assist)
Q: could one or the other of these 2 units mess with the AF on camera. I've been having a problem of it moving out of focus after releasing finger from focus button. Just wanting to rule this out.

I m curious on how to update the firmware on a godox x1-t trigger? When I connect the trigger to a win10 laptop via usb, it does not detect the existence of the trigger. I tried having batteries in, turning trigger on, removing batteries etc.
