I believe the gates open at 9 am; why don't we meet up at front gate around 8:45?

good point about the cold weather though....they might not let him out. I'll call the zoo and see what their plans will be for Friday morning.

Well now I may not be there. Right before Xmas some guy pulled out in front of me and my car rammed into is car. Smashed up my front end. Well they called me and said my car is ready and they are waiting on the Insurance to pay. His Insurance should have sent the check out yesterday if they do what they said they were gonna do and it will be at the shop tomorrow. So I may have to drive to Bham to pick it up.

So in short if i have to get my car I will not be there. If they don't call I plan on showing up. I will let you know tomorrow around 7.00pm

Checked with the zoo. Based on current weather forecasts, they don't expect to have the baby panda outside tomorrow. My vote is to cancel shoot and reschedule for another time.

A few from Ammicalola Falls right after Christmas. Nothing really spectacular but I thought I would show how evil John is.

First one is the day before John joined us. We were headed up the mountain to go feed the dog when the sun finally peeked out for just a second. We pulled into the mid-falls parking lot and ran down the trail. It only stayed out for a few minutes but it was better than the uniform grey we had been seeing. As soon as we popped around the first corner I stopped and grabbed this first shot. In case you've never seen a 300 -2.8 stopped down to f-29...now you have

This is the only shot that I even sort of liked from Friday. I have a long ways to go in shooting waterfalls but this was good practice. This next one is with the 24-70. I finally got to use my ND filters that I bought a while back.

OK, this is where evil John came in. It started with: "Have you seen one of these before?" He then pulled out his 12-24 sigma. I thought it was only for crop cameras (I wish...). Anyway, I was really curious to see how it would do on a full frame camera. The only thing I forgot to do was open it way up to see how it would do around the edges. I was more worried about getting silky water. Next time I am around John I will snatch it from him and open it wide to see how it looks. We all know that the bridge kills any chance of a picture but I thought this really showed how wide 12mm is on FF. I think it was shot around f-20

and finally, from the bridge @ 12mm in a horizontal shot. I think next time evil John shows up I am going to hypnotize him and convince him he sold me the lens...

For the fish folks among us the Chattanooga aquarium is adding a penguin exhibit that should be open sometime in May. I will keep an eye on it and if anyone is interested I will let you know when it opens.

Last thing: I know we (unless we get some really cold weather all of a sudden) are probably 6-8 weeks away from something interesting, I would really like to get together somewhere and work on some macro stuff. One suggestion is the b-ham botanical garden but I am open to just about anything.

see ya, mark

Mark: wow! the 12mm on the 5d is wideer than even I imagined. Now you have me thinking about the 5d. You ARE the evil one

Nice shots, especially given the lighting we had. The 300/2.8 had the best view for sure. That looks like probably the best way to shoot around the bridge problem.

As for macro work, have you considered the butterfly exhibit at Callaway? Toasty warm inside so cold weather is not an issue.

Good shots from all and I will side with Mark...........John is the evil one!

I'm relatively open for the near future. A Sunday would probably be better but I can probably make most Saturdays for the next few months.

Nancy & I have been trying to get back to the butterfly house at the Chattanooga aquarium. I know it is smaller than Calloway but it is close for easy practice. Maybe we can get over there this Sunday afternoon. I'm shooting peewee wrestling this Saturday. I'm curious to see how that goes.

Anyway, pick a calloway date a few weeks in the future and we should be able to make it.

Rob, I think we can find you something to use if you can make it. I wish I could pick up a lens baby and macro attachment for it before we go but that isn't going to happen unless I buy a lottery ticket and actually win...

I hope we can get a big turnout for this as there are lots of you we haven't seen in a while.

Robert, I have a Canon 500D 77mm you could use if we go somewhere. It just attatches to the front of your lens and makes it like a macro lens. It is cool, because it is multi-element.

Robert, I would warn you about strangers bearing gifts & trying to lure you to the dark side but in this case she is trying to lure you to the dark side using a CANON macro attachment...

Last month I caught her lusting after a 5D. I think the therapy sessions are working...

Yea I know. But there is this green stuff they call money. It brings me down to earth very fast.

I have a list of stuff I won't but will never get.
